Resumo: | Corn (Zea mays) is one of the most economically important crops in Brazil, which is the largest exporter of this grain in the world. In order to achieve good productivity, the ideal sowing time is in the summer, between the months of September to December, however, some producers grow corn in February, being known as safrinha corn. At this time of the year, rainfall is scarce and there may be a water deficit with consequent damage to the development of the crop. The use of techniques to mitigate the damage caused by the lack of rain can promote increases in agricultural production. Brachiaria ruziziensis is a grass widely used as forage and vegetation cover. Organic fertilization is essential to improve the soil, physical and chemical characteristics, in addition to reducing environmental damage. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate the productivity of the corn crop in different types of fertilizers, in comparison with the coverage provided by Brachiaria ruziziensis in no-tillage. The experiments were conducted in the field, in the city of Presidente Castelo Branco (PR), using the cultivar AL Bandeirante da Bonamigo Sementes. The experimental design was completely randomized, with five treatments and five repetitions of each. The variables analyzed were: plant height, stem diameter, green and dry mass at the end of the vegetative cycle, height of the ear insertion point, number of grains per ear and weight of a thousand grains at the end of the reproductive cycle. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and the means were compared using the Scott-Knott test at 5% significance. Treatment with organomineral fertilization showed better vegetative development, while mineral fertilization promoted greater increases in productivity. |
