This article comprises feasible design recommendations to professionals from the civil construction area, in order to enable them to design improved housing in the public interest regarding quality in Brazil. For the sake of a better understanding about the required improvements to that kind of housing, the study begins with the developing process of social housing in Brazil, from the urbanization beginning up today, showing the arising key problems regarding either the bad urban insertion and the designing mode of buildings, resulting into low quality and unhealthy housing. These problems show up mainly because of ineffective design decisions made by designers, since these houses are majority produced without a deeper analysis, therefore changing the guidelines assumed by professionals is primordial. The recommendations relative to the designing modes will be better understood though the case study of a built design in the country, that exhibits positive elements which can be rethought by the future designers from this area.
