Uso de laserterapia de baixa potência para tratamento de lesões bucais: Revisão de literatura

Low power laser therapy can be used in various areas of dentistry and for various purposes. It works as a light that crosses the mucosa, reaching the metabolic processes of the target cells. Parts of its energy are transmitted, reflected, diffused and absorbed by tissues. The laser energy does not produce heat, but rather photochemical, photophysical and/or photobiological effects, thus, inducing local circulation and cellular proliferation. As some patients with oral lesions do not demonstrate a good quality of life, be it in eating, speech, or in the aesthetic aspect, laser is an treatment alternative. A literature review was carried out, through research by searching a database of scientific articles and publications of interest, regarding low power laser and its operation in dentistry, protocols for treatment of oral lesions with laser therapy, and the effects on patients. As highlighted in the research, the articles show that laser therapies present analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, also promoting cell proliferation and stimulating cicatrization. In cases of angular cheilitis and traumatic ulcers accelerated cicatrization resulted, as did a reduction in symptoms. In the case of burning mouth syndrome improvements in symptoms were also displayed. It is concluded that laser therapy is efficient for the treatment of oral lesions, or at a minimum in the reduction of symptoms and lesions, being a safe treatment without demonstrating side effects.
