Resumo: The study of bite marks is one of the important areas of performance of Odontology in the process of human identification, it helps in the inclusion or exclusion of its potential authors and it can be found in several scenarios, both in humans and food. Knowing how to recognize a bite mark, analyze it and photograph it, as well as perform its immediate collection are essential factors for correct identification. The present study aims to recognize and demonstrate the importance of bite marks for human identification, their characteristics of interest and their limitations and, also, to emphasize its importance for criminal investigation, in addition to highlighting the value that the dental surgeon has within a multidisciplinary investigation team, through a literature review.

Saber reconhecer uma marca de mordida, analisá-la e fotografá-la, assim como realizar a sua coleta imediata são fatores essenciais para uma correta identificação.
