Resumo: A posterior crossed bite could be described when an occlusal contact inversion of upper and lower teeth, by undesirable lingual inclinations in posterior upper or lower teeth and or buccal of lower posterior teeth. In the most severe cases, there might occur a tranvertial disability in the bone bases relationships, and in those situations,the upper posterior teeth lingually occlude the lower teeth, causing an unstable and uncomfortable occlusal condition. This malocclusion does not self-correct with facial growth, and normally a precocious therapeutic should be applied by the rapid maxillary expansion (RME). This work´s objective was to report a clinical case with mixed dentition with bilateral posterior crossbite, which was treated by palatal disjunction to reestablish the correct transverse between dental arches, restoring harmony and occlusal balance

Em casos mais severos, pode ocorrer uma deficiência transversal na relação entre as bases ósseas, e nestas situações, os dentes posteriores superiores ocluem por lingual aos dentes inferiores, ocasionando uma condição oclusal instável e desconfortável. Esta maloclusão não se autocorrige com o crescimento facial e normalmente deve ser aplicada uma terapêutica precoce por meio da expansão rápida da maxila (ERM).
