Resumo: | Introduction: The habit of smoking hookah and electronic cigarettes is becoming more common every day, as a form of recreation in leisure time, either in cases like the aim of ceasing the use of conventional cigarettes, because it is believed that it is less injurious to health. However, this practice is alarming not only because it increases tobacco consumption, but also because of all the other toxic components that are produced and released in these devices. Smoking, in its various forms, is the main form of consumption of these harmful elements, causing damage to the oral and general health of its consumers. Objective: To review the literature that associate wounds in the oral cavity with the use of hookah and electronic cigarettes. Methodology: It was used for this research the Google Scholar and PubMed database, articles published from 2017 to 2022, in which 56 articles were found that addressed the theme hookah, electronic cigarette and oral cavity. After applying the inclusion criteria, 13 articles were selected, the main database being PubMed, with 7 of them. Results: 56 articles were found that addressed the theme hookah, electronic cigarette and oral cavity. After applying the inclusion criteria, 13 articles were selected, the main database being PubMed with 7 articles. Most studies found that hookah and electronic cigarettes are strongly related to the toxic effects caused in the oral cavity and that its consumption is not safe. Final Considerations: It is noticed with this study, that the use of hookah and electronic cigarettes, as a form of nicotine consumption, is directly related to the development of several diseases in the oral cavity, cellular, bone and fungal order among others. In addition to it, it was found that these nicotine consumption devices, against of what many people believe and advertise, are not safe and do not cause less health problems compared to conventional cigarettes. With the control of studies proving the harmful effects of hookah and the inspection of the products, there was a decrease in the use of this product, however this add to the increase in the consumption of electronic cigarettes, since there is still no concrete information about the damage caused by it, although its sale, importation and/or propagation are prohibited in Brazil by Anvisa. |
