Maringá is known as the "Green City" that was designed by the town planner and engineer Jorge de Macedo Vieira. However, the lack of continuity of Vieira's project in the neighborhoods subsequent to the plan is visible. The main cause of this lack of permanence is due to the accelerated growth and lack of maintenance measures of the original project by the public agencies. As a main focus, the article discusses the New Center, a neighborhood that diverges from the original plan, with scarce afforestation, constructive indexes higher than those practiced in the rest of the city and lack of visual identity, with the purpose of substantiate a project of urban intervention for the New Center of Maringa, providing to the place an urbanistic and landscape identity, having as guiding principle the afforestation as cultural patrimony of the Maringa people. In this context, it took as a methodology the bibliographical revision on concepts of urban intervention, historical of the city, analysis of works correlated to the theme and the impacts of the hot spot areas. A comparative analysis of the local air temperature was also carried out in relation to other wooded areas of the city. This work served as a basis for the development of an intervention project in the area mentioned, being part of the work of completion of the Architecture and Urbanism course.
