Brazilian scientific literature on alcohol and other drugs: a bibliometric study

Resumo: It is a bibliometric study that aimed to quantify and describe the characteristics of scientific literature on alcohol and other drugs in Brazilian universities from 2003 to 2012. The study involved the pursuit of doctoral dissertation abstracts and master's theses deposited in the Bank CAPES theses. By applying mathematical and statistical methods on literature sources were analyzed a total of 350 abstracts of theses and dissertations of 739 abstracts. All references found were systematized in software spreadsheet Statiscal Package Social Science (SPSS) version 15.0 according to the following variables: type of study (Masters or PhD), publication year, area of expertise, geographic region and educational institution higher. This study showed that most of the scientific literature on the topic of alcohol and other drugs developed in the investigated period occurred in the dissertations format, with the highest concentration of studies in the Southeast, traditional focal point of scientific research in various fields. Further investigations are important to deepen the analysis of academic productions collected in addition to the summaries, contributing to a more detailed verification of the research profile, dissertation and thesis character, developed in the country

O estudo compreendeu a busca de resumos de teses de doutorado e  dissertações  de mestrado depositadas no Banco de teses da Capes. Através da aplicação de métodos matemáticos e estatísticos sobre as fontes bibliográficas foram analisados um total de 350 resumos de teses e 739 resumos de dissertações. Todas as referências encontradas foram sistematizadas em planilha do software Statiscal Package Social Science, versão 15.0 de acordo com as seguintes variáveis: tipo de estudo (mestrado ou doutorado), ano de publicação, área de conhecimento, região geográfica e instituição de ensino superior. O presente estudo evidenciou que a maior parte da produção científica sobre a temática de álcool e outras drogas desenvolvida no período investigado se deu no formato de dissertações, com maior concentração de estudos na região sudeste, tradicional pólo de pesquisa científica em diversas áreas.
