Resumo: | In Brazil, the high diversity of plant species with several properties popularly known as medicinal has served as the basis for the development of their scientific research. Thus, this paper describes the identification of antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of organic extracts of flowers and leaves of the species Ixora coccinea L, and relates these activities. The species was collected in the Alto Oeste Potiguar region, at the IFRN in Pau dos Ferros. The samples were separated in flowers and leaves, which were subjected to exhaustive extraction with organic solvents to obtain ethanolic (EEIc) and methanolic (EMIc) extracts. With the obtained extracts was performed the analysis of the antioxidant activity by scavenging method of free radicals DPPH• in methanol solution and subsequently investigated the presence of the antimicrobial activity of the extracts that have undergone diffusion tests paper disk six millimeters against the standard bacterial strains Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecium. It proved the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the extracts, where the ethanol extracts of leaves (EEF) and flowers of methanol (EMFl), showed the most significant results. Among them, the EMFl showed high antioxidant activity in lower concentrations and better antimicrobial action featuring the largest halo of inhibition forward to the bacteria Enterococcus faecium. The ethanolic extract of the leaves was the only one that demonstrated bactericidal action for the two bacteria used. It is possible concluded that Ixora coccinea L has a potent antioxidant action and can be related to the strong bactericidal action presented in this study. Keywords: Organic extracts; Ixora coccinea; antioxidant activity; antimicrobial activity. |

Universidade Federal do AmapáIFRNCNPqda Silva Queiroz, Aline CarmosinaBizerra, Ayla Marcia CordeiroMachado, Adalva Lopes2018-12-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/410010.18561/2179-5746/biotaamazonia.v8n4p48-52Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota); v. 8, n. 4 (2018); 49-532179-5746reponame:Biota Amazôniainstname:Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)instacron:UNIFAPporhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/4100/v8n4p49-53.pdfDireitos autorais 2019 Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota)http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2019-09-11T12:36:58Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/4100Revistahttp://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biotaONGhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/oai||juliosa@unifap.br2179-57462179-5746opendoar:2019-09-11T12:36:58Biota Amazônia - Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)false |
