Resumo: | This preliminary study aimed at assessing the insecticidal activity of essential oils Piper aduncum L., P. callosum Ruiz Pav., P. divaricatum G. Mey., P. marginatum Jacq. var. anisatum and P. marginatum Jacq var. marginatum in adult Solenopsis saevissima workers, in the laboratory. For the assessment of activity per contact insecticide in contaminated surface, were used filter papers-impregnated with 1 mL of concentrations 100, 500 and 1.000 ppm of essential oils and substance control acetone. In periods of 24 and 48 hours after the start of the experiments were registered numbers dead ants. The percentage of mortality occurred in each treatment was determined using the formula,% mortality = No. deaths in control-In. deaths in treatment/no. deaths in control x 100. Between oils of five species of Piper, the best potential insecticide was found in P. aduncum with average 100% mortality (1000 ppm), 85% (500 ppm) and 55% (100 ppm) in 24 hours and 100% (1000 and 500 ppm) and 76.6% (100 ppm) within 48 hours. Assigns the insecticidal action, conferred by P. aduncum, chemical composition, its essential oil, due to presence attractive dilapiol (50-97%). |

Assigns the insecticidal action, conferred by P. aduncum, chemical composition, its essential oil, due to presence attractive dilapiol (50-97%).
