Resumo: | Air pollution is one of the environmental problems of humanity and sparks concern on sustainability. This problem has worsened and caused harmful effects to the environment and people's health. As pollution cannot be completely eliminated, it is necessary to be monitored. The bioindicators are amongst the methods of measuring environmental quality. They may indicate the presence of air pollutants such as compounds of carbon, sulfur, halogen, nitrogen and particulate matter. The aim of this study is to present a review of articles involving bioindicators in biomonitoring of air pollution. In order to carry out the survey of the species used as bioindicators, ways for detecting pollutants and their techniques. There were listed 19 species in 27 studies, with 16 species belonging to the Division Angiospermae, one genere to Bryophyta, and 2 species of lichens. The results point to a great diversity of species, showing that there is potential for application of biomonitoring.Keywords: Vegetal bioindicators; Air pollution; Biomonitoring. |

Esse problema tem se agravado e provocado efeitos prejudiciais ao ambiente e à saúde da população. Como a poluição não pode ser completamente eliminada é preciso que seja monitorada. Os bioindicadores estão entre os métodos de medição de qualidade ambiental. Eles podem indicar a presença de poluentes atmosféricos tais como compostos orgânicos de carbono, enxofre, halogenados, nitrogênio e material particulado. O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar uma revisão bibliográfica dos trabalhos disponÃveis envolvendo bioindicadores vegetais no biomonitoramento da poluição atmosférica, de modo a realizar o levantamento das espécies utilizadas como bioindicadores, os meios de detecção dos poluentes e as técnicas utilizadas. Foram relacionadas 19 espécies nos 27 estudos, sendo 16 espécies pertencentes à divisão Angiospermae, 1 gênero à divisão Bryophyta, e 2 duas espécies de lÃquens.
