Resumo: The Ponta Negra beach, located in the municipality of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, hosts a great diversity of fish species of economical and ecological importance. The local fish fauna have suffered the destruction of the ecosystems due to anthropogenic activities, specifically real estate speculation, dumping of sewage and overfishing. This study verified the frequency of occurrence and external morphology characteristics of the marine fish species from the coastal region of Ponta Negra, Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The sampling period extended from January to December, 2012, during which time the occurrence of ten fish species, distributed in three orders (Carcharhiniformes, Siluriformes and Perciformes), and eight families (Carcharhinidae, Ariidae, Centropomidae, Carangidae, Sciaenidae, Ephippidae, Scombridae, Trichiuridae) were registered. The results of this work complements a survey carried out earlier in the same area, when 20 other fish species were registered, and could enrich the knowledge of the ichthyofauna of coastal waters of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. Keywords: Coastal region; ichthyofauna; taxonomy; artisanal fishery; fishery resource.

Universidade Federal do AmapáGurgel, Thiago Augusto BezerraCarvalho, Marcelo MoreiraOliveira, Mônica RochaChellappa, Sathyabama2014-10-10info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionArtigo Avaliado pelos Paresapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/109310.18561/2179-5746/biotaamazonia.v4n3p112-118Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota); v. 4, n. 3 (2014); 112-1182179-5746reponame:Biota Amazôniainstname:Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)instacron:UNIFAPporhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/1093/v4n3p112-118.pdfDireitos autorais 2014 Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota)http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2016-04-12T19:58:16Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/1093Revistahttp://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biotaONGhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/oai||juliosa@unifap.br2179-57462179-5746opendoar:2016-04-12T19:58:16Biota Amazônia - Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)false
