ACCIDENTS BY STINGRAYS (POTAMOTRYGONIDAE) IN FOUR COMMUNITIES OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AREA, FROM CURIAÚ RIVER –APA, MACAPÁ-AP

Resumo: This study was developed during the year of 2009 and aimed to the notification and registration of the main features of accidents caused by stingrays in four communities of Curiaú River. For this study, we investigated 22 victims of accidents caused by stingrays, obtaining information about accidents, which were tabulated and analyzed statistically. The highest frequency of the victims was in the town of Torrão Curiaú, recorded with 63.67% of cases. The victims were aged over 15 years old and most were male. According to the victims, nobody knows any species of stingrays that occur in the study area. The highest incidence of accidents has reached the lower limbs (86%). The accidents occurred mostly in the afternoon and in the summer season. The most widely used treatment for people victimized was common, with the use of urine, herbs and herbal oils. The results reinforce the need for public authorities take heed to the underreporting of accidents caused by stingrays and to propose measures to encourage appropriate treatment and studies, relevant qualification of health professionals.Keywords: Potamotrygonidae; accidents; public health.

Para este estudo foram investigadas 22 vítimas de acidentes por raias obtendo-se informações sobre os acidentes, as quais foram tabuladas e analisadas estatisticamente. A maior freqüência de vítimas foi na localidade de Torrão do Curiaú com registro de 63,67% dos casos. As vítimas estavam na faixa etária acima de 15 anos e a maioria era do sexo masculino. Segundo as vítimas, nenhuma sabe a identificação das espécies de raias que ocorrem na área de estudo. A maior incidência dos acidentes atingiu os membros inferiores (86%). Os acidentes ocorreram, em sua maioria, no período da tarde e na estação de verão. A terapêutica mais utilizada pela população vitimada foi a popular com o uso de urina, ervas e óleos e fitoterápico específico Pessoa.
