Resumo: Triportheus angulatus (Spix Agassiz, 1829) is a small neotropical fish species that inhabits rivers. Considering the lack of scientific information available on this species, this study aimed to investigate the morphometric-meristic characteristics and their reproductive aspects. Samples of T. angulatus were captured from River Acauã which is located in the hydrographic basin of Piranhas-Assú of the semiarid region of Rio Grande do Norte. Morphometric measurements, meristic counts, sex ratio, length-weight analyses, length-weight relationship, size at first maturity, gonadosomatic index, condition factor, gonadal development stages, breeding period, fecundity and type of spawning were all carried out. The morphometric measurements and meristic counts of the fish confirmed its taxonomical status. The sex ratio showed a  predominance of females. The angular coefficient suggest that this species has a negative allometric growth. The size at first maturity indicates that the females mature before the males. GSI indicates a positive correlation with rainfall of the region, and a negative correlation with condition factor. The females and males presented four stages of development of the gonads. The breeding period of T. angulatus occurs from March to May coinciding with the rainy period. Mean absolute fecundity was 6648 (± 205) mature oocytes.  T. angulatus shows total breeding. Keywords: Characiformes; semiarid region; freshwater sardine; reproduction.

T. Angulatus apresentou desova total.Palavras-chave: Characiformes, região semiárida, sardinha de água doce, reprodução.Universidade Federal do AmapáAraújo, Andréa SoaresLima, Louise Thuane Barreto deNascimento, Wallace Silva doYamamoto, Maria EmíliaChellappa, Sathyabama2012-07-31info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionArtigo Avaliado pelos Paresapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/45110.18561/2179-5746/biotaamazonia.v2n1p59-73Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota); v. 2, n. 1 (2012); 59-732179-5746reponame:Biota Amazôniainstname:Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)instacron:UNIFAPporhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/451/v2n1p59-73.pdfDireitos autorais 2012 Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota)http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2016-04-18T20:33:22Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/451Revistahttp://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biotaONGhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/oai||juliosa@unifap.br2179-57462179-5746opendoar:2016-04-18T20:33:22Biota Amazônia - Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)false
