Resumo: The American Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ACL) is an infectious parasitic disease endemic in the Legal Amazon region, and more particularly in Amapá State, Brazil. Among the highlights strategies implemented by the Health Ministry to control the ACL is deployment of the Network of Laboratory Diagnosis of ACL. Each municipal laboratory must have to send 100% of the exams to the Quality Control Department of the Public Health Laboratory of Amapá (LACEN-AP). The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality control of slides sent to LACEN - AP by municipal microscopists in the period of 2007 to 2011. On the whole, 1686 slides were examined by microscopists of LACEN from Oiapoque Laranjal do Jari, Macapá, Porto Grande, Pedra Branca and Calçoene cities, 182 slides were desagrees as diagnosis; as coloring and making of slides, 947 and 927 slides obtained regular concept, respectively. The results of this study revealed the urgency of training to the microscopists and more supervision to the municipal laboratories that performing leishmaniasis diagnosis. The quality control performed by LACEN is extremely important to obtain results of greater reliability, thus extending the support for surveillance of the disease in the state of Amapá.Keywords: infectious disease; sandflies; epidemiological surveillance; eastern Amazon.
