Resumo: Fishing is important to the economic activity of the state of Rondônia, however, some factors threaten the maintenance of fishing resources, among which predatory fishing stands out. Thus, this study aimed, in an unprecedented way, to characterize illegal fishing activities in the state of Rondônia. Records of 122 infraction notices drawn up by IBAMA between December 2008 and August 2014 were analyzed, resulting in aggravating penalties of R$ US$ 32,997.37 and the seizure of 743.74 kg of fish. There were records of fishing violations in 19 of the 52 municipalities in Rondônia, with emphasis on Costa Marques and Porto Velho, which accounted for 52.46% of the occurrences. In turn, 2008 was the year with the highest number of recorded fines, with fishing during the closed season being the most frequent infraction. In relation to fishery resources, 21 categories were captured, especially peacock bass, tambaqui, pirarara and cachara. According to the data obtained, the clandestine profile of opportunistic predatory fishing in the state is characterized, mainly targeting species of greater commercial value. Keyword: Amazon; Oversight; IBAMA; Fishing resource.

Keyword: Amazon; Oversight; IBAMA; Fishing resource.
