Resumo: This research aimed to analyze the reproductive biology of Hoplias malabricus, a fish known as traíra, in the Hydrographic Basin of the Pericumã River, Amazon Maranhense. All the specimens captured came from artisanal fishing, carried out every two months from July 2018 to July 2019, the fishing gear used was the waiting net. Analysis of length variation in relation to the collection period was made, indicating the month of March 2019 with the highest length rates. In the sexual proportion, females predominated in practically all the months of sampling. The type of growth differed from males to females, with negative isometric and allometric growth, respectively. In the analysis of the condition factor, the highest values were observed in the months of July 2018 and July 2019, a period of drought. The IGS gonodosomatic index showed more accentuated reproductive activity in the rainy season, in December 2018. Finally, the length of the first maturation (L50), and the length where 100% of the specimens were able to reproduce (L100), were 19.6 cm and 27.8 cm, respectively, however the highest catch rates were in the 17 to 18 cm length class, indicating excessive catches and directed at individuals below (L50), which may lead to a population decline. In this way, this study is relevant, as it provides subsidies for further studies, and practices aimed at the preservation and adequate management for the maintenance of populations of this important species in the Baixada Maranhense.Keywords: Gonodosomatic Index; First Maturation; Sustainable management.

Todos os espécimes capturados foram oriundos da pesca artesanal, realizada bimestralmente nos meses de julho de 2018 a julho de 2019, a arte de pesca utilizada foi rede de espera. Foram feitas análises de variação de comprimento em relação ao período de coleta, indicando o mês de março de 2019 com as maiores taxas de comprimento. Na proporção sexual houve predomínio de fêmeas em praticamente todas os meses de amostragem. O tipo de crescimento diferiu de machos para fêmeas, com crescimento isométrico e alométrico negativo, respectivamente. Na análise do fator de condição os maiores valores foram observados nos meses de julho de 2018 e julho de 2019, período de estiagem. O índice gonodossomático IGS apontou atividade reprodutiva mais acentuada no período chuvoso, em dezembro de 2018. E por fim o comprimento da primeira maturação (L50), e o comprimento onde 100% dos espécimes se encontravam aptos a se reproduzir (L100), foram de 19,6 cm e 27,8 cm, respectivamente, porém as maiores taxas de captura se deram na classe de comprimento de 17 a 18 cm, indicando capturas excessivas e direcionadas a indivíduos abaixo do (L50), podendo levar a um declínio da população.
