Resumo: | Tephritidae, commonly known as fruit flies, exhibit high species diversity, including a number of pest species and species complexes. Their wing pattern is associated with complex ecological specialization and sexual selection, constituting a suitable model for biological and evolutionary studies. Here, we analyzed the morphological difference in the wing shape of the cryptic species Anastrepha sp. 1 aff. fraterculus and A. sp. 2 aff. fraterculus and their reciprocal hybrids using geometric morphometrics. Analyses of wing shape patterns using 13 landmarks revealed significant interspecific morphometric and between-sex differences, indicating marked sexual dimorphism and particular patterns. The reciprocal hybrids exhibited intermediate wing shape patterns. The different morphological profiles between the two new species support distinct taxonomic status, resulted from independent evolutionary paths. Sexual dimorphism associated to wing structures suggests the action of sexual selection. Subsequent studies will make it possible to estimate the influence of wing shape on prezygotic isolation between A. sp. 1 and A. sp. 2, and on possible introgressive hybridization.Keywords: Pest insects; fruit flies; phenotypic divergence; sex selection. |

Seu padrão de asas está associado a uma complexa especialização ecológica e seleção sexual, constituindo um modelo adequado para estudos biológicos e evolutivos. Aqui, analisamos a diferença morfológica na forma da asa da espécie críptica Anastrepha sp. 1 aff. fraterculus e Anastrepha sp. 2 aff. fraterculus e seus híbridos recíprocos usando morfometria geométrica. Anáises de padrões de forma de asa usando 13 pontos de referência revelaram diferenças morfométricas interrespecíficas e entre sexos significativas, indicando dimorfismo sexual marcado e padrões particulares. Os híbridos recíprocos exibiram padrões intermediários de forma da asa. Os diferentes perfis morfológicos entre as duas novas espécies sustentam status taxonômicos distintos, resultantes de caminhos evolutivos independentes. O dimorfismo sexual associado às estruturas alares sugere a ação da seleção sexual.
