Resumo: | The half beak, Hemiramphus brasiliensis (Linnaeus, 1758) (Osteichthyes: Hemiramphidae) is a marine pelagic fish encountered in the coastal waters of Rio Grande do Norte, which contributes to the fish production of the State. This study verified the reproductive biology of H. brasiliensis in the littoral waters of Caiçara do Norte, RN. The fish were captured monthly during a period of one year. The fish were measured, weighed, dissected and the gonads were examined to identify the sex and to verify stages of maturation of the gonads. The sex ratio, length at first sexual maturity, macroscopic and microscopic characterization of the development of gonads, the fecundity, the type of spawning and the reproductive period were determined. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) was determined for both sexes. The rainfall data was obtained for the study region. The results indicate that the sex ratio was 1M:1,1F and the average length at first maturity (L50) of females was 20cm and males was 28cm. The mean fecundity was 3100 mature oocytes. The macroscopic studies of the gonads indicated both sexes showed four stages of gonadal development being, immature, maturing, mature and spent. GSI showed two reproductive peaks for H. brasiliensis, the first from January to March and the second from May to July, indicating bimodal reproductive activity. Both peaks coincided with the rainy season of the region. The highest number of fish was caught commercially during their reproductive period. Keywords: marine pelagic fish; sex ratio; development of gonads. |

Universidade Federal do Amapáde Oliveira, Isabelle Maria Bezerrade Oliveira, Mônica RochaYamamoto, Maria EmÃliaChellappa, Sathyabama2012-12-27info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionArtigo Avaliado pelos Paresapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/48310.18561/2179-5746/biotaamazonia.v2n2p44-53Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota); v. 2, n. 2 (2012); 44-532179-5746reponame:Biota Amazôniainstname:Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)instacron:UNIFAPporhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/483/v2n2p44-53.pdfDireitos autorais 2012 Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota)http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2016-04-18T19:59:20Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/483Revistahttp://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biotaONGhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/oai||juliosa@unifap.br2179-57462179-5746opendoar:2016-04-18T19:59:20Biota Amazônia - Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)false |
