FISHING AND PROCEDURES CAPTURE OF CAMARÃO-DA-AMAZÔNIA DOWNSTREAM FROM A HYDROELECTRIC PLANT IN THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON

The study describes the procedures fishing and catch Camarão-da-Amazônia in the area downstream of the Hydroelectric Tucuruí. The data were collected through field observations and semi-structured individual interviews aided forms applied to fishermen along the period September to November 2011 and September 2012. O Camarão-da-Amazôniaa is caught by various fishing gears, but matapi stands out as the main fixture. The resources used in the purchase of traps and other inputs derived from family income. The entire production process, such as the making of matapis, preparation of baits, methods of capture and storage of production is practiced by hand based on traditional methods, modified over the years. The procedures fishing are diversified, some steps are common among downstream municipalities and other very specific steps. However, the catch of the fishery resource is linked to the extensive knowledge that fishermen have on the environment in which they live. Among the environmental factors that drive the craft, are the seasons and the tides that directly influence the choice fishing spot, which varies between creeks, riverbanks and beaches. Studies of the selectivity of matapis, density estocagemdos nurseries and environmental education will provide important insights social and environmental sustainability of the fishing activity of shrimp in the amazon region.Keywords: Macrobrachium amazonicum; matapi; knowledge of fishing; artisanal fishing.
