PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS AND MICROBIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF THE CRUDE ETHANOL EXTRACT OF THE CRABWOOD (Carapa guianensis AUBL.)

Resumo: Amazon in the population, in general, tends to use herbal medicines as medicinal plants for various diseases. Among the medicinal plants that are used is to Carapa guianensis Aubl. (crabwood), which has increasing application not only therapeutic, but also in chemical and cosmetic industries. The crude ethanol extract of the stem bark of Carapa guianensis Aubl. was determined using preliminary phytochemical study and antimicrobial activity. The phytochemical screening was performed by classical methods described by Matos (1997) cited by Rodrigues (2010). In the antimicrobial test was used Kirby-Bauer method modified cited Charles (2009) using the disk diffusion test with strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae (ATCC 13883), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) and Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), and antibiotics standardized, crude ethanol extract was used in concentrations 25mg/mL, 50mg/mL and 100mg/mL. Preliminary phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of phenols, tannins and anthraquinones. The crude ethanol extract of the bark of Carapa guianensis Aubl., showed low antimicrobial activity front strains of K. pneumoniae, and no activity against strains of S. aureus and E. coli.Key words: Carapa guianensis Aubl.; crabwood; antimicrobial.

(Andiroba), que possui crescente aplicação, não só terapêutica, como também, na indústria química e cosmética. O Extrato Bruto Etanólico das cascas do caule de Carapa guianensis Aubl., foi investigado usando estudo fitoquímico preliminar e atividade antimicrobiana. A prospecção fitoquímica foi realizada pelos métodos clássicos descritos por Matos (1997) apud Rodrigues (2010). No ensaio antimicrobiano foi utilizado método de Kirby-Bauer modificado, apud Charles (2009), usando o teste de difusão em disco com cepas de Klebsiella pneumoniae (ATCC 13883), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) e Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) e antibióticos padronizados, o Extrato Bruto Etanólico foi utilizado nas concentrações 25mg/mL, 50mg/mL e 100mg/mL. A análise fitoquímica preliminar evidenciou a presença de fenóis, taninos e antraquinonas.
