Time between evaluation and acceptance in teaching journals

Resumo: Scientific communication validates scientific research. When choosing a journal, the researcher should consider several aspects of the journal, such as scope, periodicity, impact factor, acceptance time, among other aspects. This research selected Brazilian journals from the Teaching Area classified in the period 2013-2016 as Qualis A1, A2 and B1 (index H5≥20). A check of each article published in the biennium 2019/2020 was performed to obtain the time between submission and acceptance (TSA) in days of the manuscript. In addition to this information, other data that could influence TSA were collected. Descriptive statistics and nonparametric test for correlation analysis were used. The total sample consisted of 5,284 articles. In 2020, the lowest average TSA observed was 28 days in a Qualis A2 journal and the highest average TSA (477 days) occurred in a Qualis B1 journal. More than half of the journals were from universities; the lowest TSA was identified among journals without publication fees; the most common periodicity was quarterly; a positive correlation was shown between number of editors and TSA in B1 journals. The results suggest that the difference in TSA observed in the biennium may be related to the paralysis in university activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Al momento de elegir la revista, el investigador debe considerar varios aspectos de la revista, tales como alcance, periodicidad, factor de impacto, tiempo de aceptación, entre otros aspectos. Esta investigación seleccionó revistas brasileñas del Área de Enseñanza clasificadas en el período 2013-2016 como Qualis A1, A2 y B1 (índice H5≥20). Se realizó verificación de cada artículo publicado en el bienio 2019/2020 para obtener el tiempo entre el envío y la aceptación (TSA) en días del manuscrito. Además de esta información, se recopilaron otros datos que podrían influir en la TSA. Se utilizaron estadísticas descriptivas y pruebas no paramétricas para el análisis de correlación. La muestra total estuvo compuesta por 5.284 artículos. En 2020, el TSA promedio más bajo observado fue de 28 días en la revista Qualis A2 y el TSA promedio más alto (477 días) ocurrió en la revista Qualis B1. Más de la mitad de las revistas provenían de universidades; el TSA más bajo se identificó entre las revistas sin tarifas de publicación; la periodicidad más común fue trimestral; hubo una correlación positiva entre el número de editores y TSA en las revistas B1. Los resultados sugieren que la diferencia en TSA observada en el bienio puede estar relacionada con la paralización de las actividades universitarias por la pandemia de la Covid-19.A comunicação científica valida a pesquisa científica. Na escolha do periódico o pesquisador deve considerar diversos aspectos da revista, como escopo, periodicidade, fator de impacto, tempo de aceite, entre outros aspectos. Esta pesquisa selecionou periódicos brasileiros da Área de Ensino classificados no período 2013-2016 como Qualis A1, A2 e B1 (índice H5≥20). Realizou-se a verificação de cada artigo publicado no biênio 2019/2020 para obter o tempo entre a submissão e o aceite (TSA) em dias do manuscrito. Além dessas informações, foram coletados outros dados que poderiam influenciar o TSA. Utilizou-se estatística descritiva e teste não paramétrico para análise de correlação. A amostra total foi composta de 5.284 artigos. Em 2020, a menor média de TSA observada foi 28 dias em revista Qualis A2 e maior média de TSA (477 dias) ocorreu em revista Qualis B1. Mais da metade dos periódicos eram oriundos de universidades; o menor TSA foi identificado entre periódicos sem taxas de publicação; a periodicidade mais comum foi trimestral; demostrou-se correlação positiva entre número de editores e TSA nas revistas B1.
