Resumo: This study aimed to understand the adolescents' perception of aging, old age and the elderly. It was an exploratory and descriptive qualitative research that was carried out in a Municipal Elementary School located in a municipality in the extreme south of Rio Grande do Sul - RS in 2018. The study participants were Elementary School students in the age group between 10 to 13 years. Data collection was carried out through individual interviews using an instrument containing open questions and occurred in March 2018. The data were analyzed using the thematic analysis technique. They showed that, in old age, the elderly can present deteriorating health, which are common chronic and degenerative diseases. They perceive Aging as a process in which there is maturation, accumulation of experiences and wisdom, associated with a greater availability of time to enjoy life and be active. However, there may also be a need for care and dependence, both physical and emotional. Old age is seen as the final phase of life and the elderly is projected with a stereotyped vision as an old person, with white hair and wrinkles on the body. It was concluded that investigating how these adolescents perceive these processes, may reflect discourses and behaviors passed on by different generations and, from that, favor means of education and research for health in different contexts of society.

Se trató de una investigación cualitativa exploratoria y descriptiva que se llevó a cabo en una Escuela Primaria Municipal ubicada en un municipio del extremo sur de Rio Grande do Sul - RS en 2018. Los participantes del estudio fueron estudiantes de Educación Primaria en el grupo de edad de 10 a 13 años. La recolección de datos se realizó a través de entrevistas individuales utilizando un instrumento que contenía preguntas abiertas y ocurrió en marzo de 2018. Los datos fueron analizados mediante la técnica de análisis temático. Demostraron que, en la vejez, los ancianos pueden presentar deterioro de la salud, que son enfermedades crónicas y degenerativas comunes. Perciben el Envejecimiento como un proceso en el que hay maduración, acumulación de experiencias y sabiduría, asociado a una mayor disponibilidad de tiempo para disfrutar de la vida y estar activo. Sin embargo, también puede haber necesidad de cuidados y dependencia, tanto física como emocional. La vejez es vista como la fase final de la vida y el anciano se proyecta con una visión estereotipada como un anciano, con canas y arrugas en el cuerpo. Se concluyó que investigar cómo estos adolescentes perciben estos procesos, puede reflejar discursos y comportamientos transmitidos por diferentes generaciones y, a partir de ahí, favorecer medios de educación e investigación para la salud en diferentes contextos de la sociedad.Este estudo teve por objetivos conhecer a percepção de adolescentes sobre envelhecimento, velhice e o ser idoso. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa exploratória e descritiva de cunho qualitativo que foi realizada em uma Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental localizada em um município do extremo sul do Rio Grande do Sul - RS no ano de 2018. Os participantes do estudo foram estudantes na faixa etária entre 10 à 13 anos. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de entrevistas individuais através de um instrumento contendo questões abertas e ocorreu no mês de março de 2018. Os dados foram analisados pela técnica de análise temática. Mostraram que na velhice o idoso pode apresentar deterioração da saúde, que são comuns as doenças crônicas e degenerativas. Percebem o Envelhecimento como um processo em que ocorre amadurecimento, acúmulo de experiências e sabedoria, associado a uma disponibilidade maior de tempo para aproveitar a vida e ser ativo. Mas que, também, pode ocorrer, necessidade de cuidados e dependência tanto física quanto emocional. A velhice é vista como a fase final da vida e o idoso projetado com uma visão estereotipada como uma pessoa velha, com cabelo branco e rugas pelo corpo.
