Tuberculosis in São Luís-Maranhão, Brazil: analysis of the epidemiological behavior between 2010 and 2018

Resumo: The objective of this study was to analyze the epidemiological profile of tuberculosis cases between 2010 and 2018. It is an ecological study, of a descriptive nature and with a quantitative approach, using secondary data, in which an epidemiological research of cases of TB in the municipality of São Luís and in the state of Maranhão from 2010 to 2018. Data were collected on the DATASUS website, from SINAN. The variables analyzed were: year of diagnosis, notification state and municipality, age group, sex and education. An increasing trend was identified, with 2018 (n = 1,288) being the most incident year, the highest number of TB cases was reported in the state of Maranhão, followed by the years 2017 (n = 1,127) and 2016 (n = 1,092). Regarding the level of education, there is a predominance (19.1%) in people between the 5th and 8th grades of elementary school, followed by those between the 1st and 4th grades of Elementary School. With regard to TB cases by sex, the largest number of cases occurred in males (n = 6,133). Regarding the age group, a higher prevalence was observed between 20-39 years (n = 4,495), followed by the 40-59 age group (n = 2,689).

Es un estudio ecológico, de naturaleza descriptiva y con un enfoque cuantitativo, utilizando datos secundarios, en el que se realiza una investigación epidemiológica de casos de TB en el municipio de São Luís y en el estado de Maranhão de 2010 a 2018. Los datos se recopilaron en el sitio web de DATASUS, de SINAN. Las variables analizadas fueron: año de diagnóstico, notificación estado y municipio, grupo de edad, sexo y educación. Se identificó una tendencia creciente, siendo 2018 (n = 1.288) el año con más incidentes, el mayor número de casos de TB se notificó en el estado de Maranhão, seguido de los años 2017 (n = 1.127) y 2016 (n = 1.092). Con respecto al nivel de educación, hay un predominio (19.1%) en personas entre los grados 5º y 8º de la escuela primaria, seguidos por los que están entre el 1º y 4º grado de la escuela primaria. Con respecto a los casos de TB por sexo, el mayor número de casos ocurrió en hombres (n = 6,133). Con respecto al grupo de edad, se observó una mayor prevalencia entre 20-39 años (n = 4,495), seguido por el grupo de edad 40-59 (n = 2,689).O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o perfil epidemiológico dos casos de Tuberculose entre 2010 e 2018. Trata-se de um estudo ecológico, de cunho descritivo e com abordagem quantitativa, utilizando-se dados secundários, no qual foi realizada uma pesquisa epidemiológica dos casos de TB no município de São Luís e no estado do Maranhão período de 2010 a 2018.  Os dados foram coletados no site do DATASUS, a partir do SINAN. As variáveis analisadas foram: ano do diagnóstico, estado e município de notificação, faixa etária, sexo e escolaridade. Identificou-se tendência crescente sendo 2018 (n=1.288) o ano mais incidente ocorreu notificação em maior quantidade de casos de TB no estado do Maranhão, seguido dos anos de 2017 (n=1.127) e 2016 (n=1.092). No tocante ao grau de escolaridade, há predomínio (19,1%) em pessoas que estão entre a 5ª e 8ª série do ensino fundamental, seguido dos que estão entre a 1ª e 4ª série do Ensino Fundamental. No que concerne aos casos de TB por sexo, o maior número de casos ocorreu no sexo masculino (n=6.133).
