Case study on symptoms and the relationship of side effects on patient abandonment during leprosy treatment carried out in a Palmas-TO

Resumo: Leprosy is a notifiable chronic infectious disease, transmitted through the airways through the etiological agent mycobacterium leprae. In this sense, this study aims to use a questionnaire on symptoms, treatment, sequelae and care in the Unified Health System (SUS), and to correlate the results obtained with the therapeutic relationship used with the abandonment of patients during treatment by a family group from the city of Palmas -TO. Among the 10 participants in the family group, only eight effectively answered the questionnaire. The data obtained show that despite the various campaigns made available by the government, the diagnosis of the disease is still late, as most patients only look for a medical clinic after the disease worsens. Such data are reinforced by the answers obtained by the questionnaire applied as: of the total number of participants, only six had basic knowledge about the disease, but only one sought the health center, two had no knowledge about the disease and seven sought only the health center because the diagnosis of a family member. All participants had aggravation of symptoms during treatment, among them, one participant had neurological problems that led to the use of antidepressants as an alternative treatment. Finally, one participant abandoned treatment due to social and therapeutic inconveniences, one participant is still undergoing treatment and five still feel pain or have psychological sequelae after treatment. The other participants report that they did not have sequelae right after the end of the treatment.

Este estudio utilizó un cuestionario que abordaba preguntas sobre síntomas, tratamiento, secuelas y cuidados en el Sistema Único de Salud (SUS) para las personas con la enfermedad, y correlacionó los resultados obtenidos con la relación terapéutica utilizada junto con la retirada de los pacientes durante el tratamiento. El cuestionario se aplicó a un grupo familiar de la ciudad de Palmas -TO. Entre los 10 participantes del grupo familiar, solo ocho respondieron efectivamente el cuestionario. Los datos obtenidos muestran que a pesar de las diversas campañas puestas a disposición por el gobierno, el diagnóstico de la enfermedad aún es tardío, ya que la mayoría de las personas con la enfermedad acude a una unidad médica de salud después de que la enfermedad empeora. Dichos datos se ven reforzados por las respuestas obtenidas por el cuestionario aplicado en esta investigación. Todos los participantes tuvieron un empeoramiento de los síntomas durante el tratamiento, entre ellos, un participante tuvo problemas neurológicos que llevaron al uso de antidepresivos como tratamiento complementario. Finalmente, un participante abandonó el tratamiento debido a inconvenientes sociales y terapéuticos, un participante aún está en tratamiento y cinco aún sienten dolor o tienen secuelas psicológicas después del tratamiento. Los otros participantes informan que no tuvieron secuelas inmediatamente después del final del tratamiento.A hanseníase é uma doença infecciosa crônica de notificação obrigatória, transmitida através das vias aéreas por meio do agente etiológico mycobacterium leprae. Este estudo utilizou um questionário abordando perguntas sobre sintomas, tratamento, sequelas e atendimento no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) de pessoas com a doença, e correlacionou os resultados obtidos frente a relação terapêutica utilizada juntamente com a desistência dos pacientes durante o tratamento. O questionário foi aplicado em um grupo familiar da cidade de Palmas -TO. Dentre os 10 participantes do grupo familiar, apenas oito responderam de fato o questionário de forma efetiva. Os dados obtidos demonstram que apesar das diversas campanhas disponibilizadas pelo governo, o diagnóstico da doença ainda se mostra tardio, pois boa parte dos portadores da doença procuram uma unidade médica de saúde após o agravamento da doença. Tais dados são reforçados pelas respostas obtidas pelo questionário aplicado nesta pesquisa. Todos os participantes tiveram agravamento dos sintomas durante o tratamento, dentre eles, um participante apresentou problemas neurológicos levando ao uso de antidepressivo como tratamento complementar. Por fim, um participante deixou o tratamento por incômodos sociais e terapêuticos, um participante ainda segue em tratamento e cinco ainda sentem dores ou apresentam sequelas psicológicas após o tratamento.
