Profile of the most prevalent drugs in self-medication in the elderly

Resumo: | Self-medication of the elderly is a reality increasingly perceived by studies and by Pharmacy professionals. Many are the elderly who, without adequate information, end up self-medicating. This fact generates several damages to the health of this public. Thus, it is important to know which are the most prevalent drugs used by the elderly, in order to seek solutions to this reality. In view of this scenario, the present study aimed to identify the profile of the drugs most consumed in self-medication in the elderly. In the methodology, an integrative literature review was carried out based on periodical databases, PubMed, Google Scholar and Scielo, whose time frame was between the years 2017 to 2022. In the results, some aspects were found, such as pain relief and malaise are preponderant factors that lead the elderly to self-medicate and analgesics were the most used drugs by this public. In addition, it was also clear to observe the importance of the pharmacist, because it is through him that the incorrect and irrational use of medicines can be prevented, as well as the provision of correct information to the elderly. |

Muchos son los ancianos que, sin la información adecuada, acaban automedicándose. Este hecho genera varios daños a la salud de este público. Así, es importante conocer cuáles son los medicamentos más prevalentes utilizados por los ancianos, para buscar soluciones a esta realidad. Frente a ese escenario, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar el perfil de los fármacos más consumidos en la automedicación en ancianos. En la metodología se realizó una revisión integradora de literatura con base en bases de datos periódicas, PubMed, Google Scholar y Scielo, cuyo marco temporal fue entre los años 2017 a 2022. En los resultados se encontraron algunos aspectos, como el alivio del dolor y el malestar son factores preponderantes que llevan a los ancianos a automedicarse y los analgésicos fueron los fármacos más utilizados por este público. Además, también quedó claro observar la importancia del farmacéutico, pues es a través de él que se puede prevenir el uso incorrecto e irracional de los medicamentos, así como la provisión de información correcta a los ancianos.A automedicação de idosos é uma realidade cada vez mais percebida por estudos e por profissionais de Farmácia. Muitos são os idosos que sem a informação adequada acaba por se automedicar. Esse fato gera diversos danos à saúde desse público. Dessa forma, é importante conhecer quais os medicamentos mais prevalentes utilizados pelos idosos, para assim buscar medidas de solução a essa realidade. Frente a esse cenário, o presente estudo teve como objetivo identificar o perfil dos medicamentos mais consumidos na automedicação em idosos. Na metodologia foi realizado uma revisão integrativa da literatura baseado nas bases de dados periódicos, PubMed, Google Acadêmico e Scielo, cujo recorte temporal se deu entre os anos de 2017 a 2022. Nos resultados, alguns aspectos foram encontrados, tais como o alívio da dor e o mal-estar são fatores preponderantes que levam idosos a se automedicarem e os analgésicos foram os medicamentos mais usados por esse público. Ademais, ficou nítido também observar a importância do profissional farmacêutico, porque é por meio dele que se pode prevenir o uso incorreto e irracional de medicamentos, bem como a disposição de informação correta aos idosos.
