Resumo: Introduction: The group of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) has two main representatives: Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UR). IBD has a chronic, inflammatory and autoimmune nature, with a heterogeneous and difficult to differentiate clinic, marked by diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain. Objective: to analyze, in a quantitative and temporal way, the epidemiological characteristics of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis from January 2012 to August 2023. Methodology: a literature review was carried out, based on scientific articles from Scielo and Pubmed , using the descriptors Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and ileocolitis. Articles in Portuguese were included, published between 2000 and 2023. Furthermore, a descriptive cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out based on the SUS health information department (DATA/SUS) between January 2012 and August 2023, using the variables: hospital admissions, mortality rate, deaths, age group, color/race, sex, nature of care and health macro-region, average hospital stay. Conclusion: it was noted that IBD has been increasing in prevalence since the second half of the 20th century, presenting a long and relapsing clinical course and, therefore, representing an important public health problem.

Research, Society and Development2024-03-25info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/4483710.33448/rsd-v13i3.44837Research, Society and Development; Vol. 13 No. 3; e7913344837Research, Society and Development; Vol. 13 Núm. 3; e7913344837Research, Society and Development; v. 13 n. 3; e79133448372525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/44837/36158Copyright (c) 2024 Cynthia Cristina Pagliari de Faro ; Thiago Barreto do Nascimento Filho; Beatriz Barbosa Silva Souza Lisboa; Maria Clara Teixeira Soares; Lara Victoria Ferraz Torres; Vanessa Fonseca Carvalho Silveira ; Daniele Carvalho da Cruzhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessFaro , Cynthia Cristina Pagliari de Nascimento Filho, Thiago Barreto do Lisboa, Beatriz Barbosa Silva Souza Soares, Maria Clara Teixeira Torres, Lara Victoria Ferraz Silveira , Vanessa Fonseca Carvalho Cruz, Daniele Carvalho da 2024-04-04T18:36:46Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/44837Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-04-04T18:36:46Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
