Use of weight loss agents in the treatment of obesity: comparison of adverse effects in the use of orlistat versus sibutramine

Resumo: The objective of this study was to analyze the scientific evidence in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online - (MEDLINE/PUBMED) databases, making a comparison of adverse effects in the use of orlistat versus sibutramine. The research method used was an integrative literature review with a qualitative approach. After selecting 100 articles, two criteria were used, namely: inclusion criteria (articles published from 2014 to 2022; articles published in Portuguese; original and review articles on the subject) and exclusion criterion (duplicated articles in the databases); primers, books, notebooks, handouts, dissertations, theses and course conclusion works). Afterwards, 10 articles were selected for the elaboration of this work, they were presented in table form and discussed in the sequence. Given this scenario, it was concluded that anorectic drugs can cause several adverse effects, so it is always necessary to carry out the treatment with the follow-up of a qualified professional, since the irrational use can be harmful to the patient's health.

El método de investigación utilizado fue la revisión integradora de literatura con un enfoque cualitativo. Después de seleccionar 100 artículos, se utilizaron dos criterios, a saber: criterios de inclusión (artículos publicados entre 2014 y 2022; artículos publicados en portugués; artículos originales y de revisión sobre el tema) y criterios de exclusión (artículos duplicados en las bases de datos de Dice); cartillas, libros, cuadernos, folletos, disertaciones, tesis y trabajos de conclusión de curso). Luego, se seleccionaron 10 artículos para la elaboración de este trabajo, los cuales fueron presentados en forma de tabla y discutidos en secuencia. Ante este escenario, se concluyó que los fármacos anoréxicos pueden causar varios efectos adversos, por lo que siempre es necesario realizar el tratamiento con el seguimiento de un profesional calificado, ya que el uso irracional puede ser perjudicial para la salud del paciente.Objetivo deste trabalho foi de analisar as evidências científicas nas bases de dados Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Literatura Latino-americada do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online – (MEDLINE/PUBMED), fazendo uma comparação dos efeitos adversos no uso do orlistat versus sibutramina. O método de pesquisa utilizado foi de revisão bibliográfica integrativa com abordagem qualitativa. Após a seleção de 100 artigos, foram usados dois critérios, sendo eles: critério de inclusão (artigos publicados de 2014 a 2022; artigos publicados no idioma português; artigos originais e de revisão na temática) e critério de exclusão (artigos duplicados nas bases de dados; cartilhas, livros, cadernetas, apostilas, dissertações, teses e trabalhos de conclusão de curso). Após, foram selecionados 10 artigos para a elaboração do presente trabalho, estes foram apresentados em forma de tabela e discutidos na sequência.
