Spatial analysis and social determinants in the surveillance of neglected diseases

Resumo: This ecological, analytical and exploratory study aimed to characterize patients diagnosed with neglected diseases in Picos, Piauí and exemplify how the association of a tool of a geographic information system with specific knowledge can bring contributions to public health decisions. The study was carried out using data from the Epidemiological Surveillance. The presence of global spatial dependence was verified through the global Moran index and was evaluated by local autocorrelation through LISA (Local Indicators of the Space Association). For spatial representation of the Moran scattering diagram, Moran Maps were used. The evidenced information made possible the comprehension of the local epidemiology and, the geoprocessing techniques allowed the visualization of the cases of neglected diseases distributed in the city. In the urban network, there was a cluster of neighborhoods with similar incidence rates in neighborhoods close to the downtown. A high-risk cluster was identified in the central neighborhoods of the city, enabling the identification of vulnerable areas and providing visibility in disease detection rates by neighborhood, thus providing information that would not be visualized working only with tabular data.

Se realizó utilizando datos de la Vigilancia Epidemiológica. La presencia de dependencia espacial global se verificó a través del índice de Moran global y la autocorrelación local se evaluó utilizando el LISA (Indicadores locales de asociación espacial). Para la representación espacial del diagrama de dispersión de Moran, se utilizaron mapas de Moran. La información evidenciada permitió la comprensión de la epidemiología local y las técnicas de geoprocesamiento permitieron visualizar los casos de enfermedades olvidadas distribuidas en el municipio. En la red urbana, había un grupo de barrios con tasas de incidencia similares en los barrios cercanos al centro de la ciudad. Se identificó un grupo de alto riesgo en los vecindarios centrales del municipio, lo que permite la identificación de áreas vulnerables y proporciona visibilidad en las tasas de detección de la enfermedad por vecindario, proporcionando así información que no se visualizaría utilizando solo datos tabulares.Trata-se de estudo ecológico, analítico e exploratório que objetivou caracterizar os indivíduos diagnosticados com doenças negligenciadas em Picos, Piauí e exemplificar, como a associação de uma ferramenta de um sistema de informação geográfico com conhecimentos específicos, pode trazer contribuições à tomada de decisões em saúde pública. Foi realizado através de dados da Vigilância Epidemiológica. A presença de dependência espacial global foi constatada através do índice de Moran global e foi avaliada a autocorrelação local através do LISA (Local Indicators of Spatial Association). Para representação espacial do diagrama de espalhamento de Moran, foram utilizados os Mapas de Moran. As informações evidenciadas possibilitaram a compreensão da epidemiologia local e, as técnicas de geoprocessamento permitiram a visualização dos casos de doenças negligenciadas distribuídos no município. Na malha urbana evidenciou agrupamento de bairros com taxas de incidências similares nos bairros próximos ao centro da cidade.
