The importance of nursing actions for the prevention, screening, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections in the elderly

Resumo: Nursing actions for the prevention, tracking and treatment of various pathologies are extremely important. With regard to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in old age, these actions are even more important for the quality of life of this growing population, both due to the availability of medication and technological developments. With this, the elderly are living longer and expanding their active sex life. In this context, this article aims to describe in the literature the importance of Nursing actions and knowledge about STIs in old age. This is a narrative literature review. For data collection, a survey was carried out between July and November 2022 in the databases: Virtual Health Library (BVS); Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Ministry of Health (Brazil) and Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). 12 documents relevant to the study were selected and two categories were created: knowledge about STIs in old age and the importance of nursing actions regarding STIs for this public. The results contribute to the discussion about the need for health professionals to pay more attention to sexuality among the elderly. Thus, it is expected that the present study will collaborate with the awareness of the importance of nursing work on STIs in the prevention, screening and treatment of STIs for the elderly public.

En cuanto a las infecciones de transmisión sexual (ITS) en la vejez, estas acciones son aún más importantes para la calidad de vida de esta población creciente, tanto por la disponibilidad de medicamentos como por los avances tecnológicos. Con esto, los adultos mayores viven más años y amplían su vida sexual activa. En ese contexto, este artículo tiene como objetivo describir en la literatura la importancia de las acciones y conocimientos de Enfermería sobre las ITS en la vejez. Esta es una revisión narrativa de la literatura. Para la recolección de datos, se realizó una encuesta entre julio y noviembre de 2022 en las bases de datos: Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS); Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS), Biblioteca Científica Electrónica en Línea (SciELO), Ministerio de Salud (Brasil) e Instituto Brasileño de Geografía y Estadística (IBGE). Fueron seleccionados 12 documentos relevantes para el estudio y fueron creadas dos categorías: el conocimiento sobre las ITS en la vejez y la importancia de las acciones de enfermería frente a las ITS para ese público. Los resultados contribuyen a la discusión sobre la necesidad de que los profesionales de la salud presten más atención a la sexualidad entre los ancianos. Así, se espera que el presente estudio colabore con la concientización de la importancia del trabajo de enfermería sobre las ITS en la prevención, pesquisa y tratamiento de las ITS para el público anciano.É de extrema importância as ações de enfermagem para a prevenção, rastreamento e tratamento de diversas patologias. No que tange às infecções sexualmente transmissíveis (IST´s) na terceira idade, essas ações são ainda de maior importância para a qualidade de vida dessa população que vem crescendo, tanto devido à disponibilidade de medicamentos, quanto pela evolução tecnológica. Com isso, os idosos estão vivendo mais e ampliando sua vida sexual ativa. Neste contexto, o presente artigo tem por objetivo descrever perante a literatura a importância das ações da Enfermagem e os conhecimentos sobre IST´s na terceira idade. Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa de literatura. Para a coleta dos dados foi realizado um levantamento entre julho e novembro de 2022 nas bases de dados: Biblioteca Virtual Em Saúde (BVS); Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), no Ministério da Saúde (Brasil) e Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). Foram selecionados 12 documentos pertinentes ao estudo e elaborou-se duas categorias: o conhecimento sobre as IST´s na terceira idade e a importância das ações de enfermagem sobre as IST´s para esse público. Os resultados contribuem para a discussão sobre a necessidade de os profissionais de saúde tratarem com mais atenção o tema sexualidade entre os idosos.
