Prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress in university population in pandemic times

Resumo: Objective: to identify the prevalence of anxious, depressive and stress symptoms in university students. Method: Observational, exploratory and descriptive research carried out in a private educational institution in the east of São Paulo, using Google forms, using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS-21) and a sociodemographic characterization instrument. Results: They showed a high prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress in university students during the pandemic, with statistical significance for university students in health courses, most of them (72%) health workers, female, white, Catholic, single, without children, employed, with per capita income of 2 to 5 minimum wages and without recreation and leisure activities. Conclusion: Symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression in university students during the COVID -19 pandemic are related to the isolation measures imposed by the government and changes in the daily routine and studies, at different levels and different age groups, in addition to the uncertainties generated, both personally and educationally. The early identification of symptoms, which when carried out at an early stage, can offer a quick treatment in the treatment of these symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, offering a better quality of life and a success in the training of university students.

Método: Investigación observacional, exploratoria y descriptiva realizada en una institución educativa privada del este de São Paulo, utilizando formularios de Google, utilizando las Escalas de Depresión, Ansiedad y Estrés (DASS-21) y un instrumento de caracterización sociodemográfica. Resultados: mostraron una alta prevalencia de depresión, ansiedad y estrés en universitarios durante la pandemia, con significación estadística para universitarios de carreras de salud, en su mayoría (72%) trabajadores de la salud, sexo femenino, blancos, católicos, solteros, sin hijos, ocupado, con ingreso per cápita de 2 a 5 salarios mínimos y sin actividades de recreación y esparcimiento. Conclusión: Los síntomas de estrés, ansiedad y depresión en universitarios durante la pandemia del COVID-19 están relacionados con las medidas de aislamiento impuestas por el gobierno y cambios en la rutina diaria y de estudios, en diferentes niveles y diferentes grupos de edad, además de las incertidumbres generados, tanto a nivel personal como educativo. La identificación temprana de síntomas, qué al realizarse en una etapa temprana, puede ofrecer un tratamiento rápido en el tratamiento de estos síntomas de estrés, ansiedad y depresión, ofreciendo una mejor calidad de vida y un éxito en la formación de los estudiantes universitarios.Objetivo: identificar a prevalência de sintomas ansiosos, depressivos e estresse em universitários. Método: Pesquisa de caráter observacional, exploratório e descritivo realizada em instituição de ensino privada do leste paulista, via Google formulários, utilizando escala de Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS-21) e instrumento de caracterização sociodemográfica.  Resultados: Evidenciaram alta prevalência da depressão, ansiedade e estresse em universitários durante a pandemia, com significância estatística para os universitários dos cursos de saúde, em sua grande maioria (72%) trabalhadores de saúde, sexo feminino, branco, católica, solteiro, sem filhos, empregado, com renda per capita de 2 a 5 salários mínimos e sem atividades de recreação e lazer. Conclusão: Sintomas de estresse, ansiedade e depressão em estudantes universitários durante a pandemia COVID -19 está relacionado as medidas de isolamento imposto pelo governo e pelas mudanças na rotina diária e de estudos, em diferentes níveis e diferentes faixas etárias, além das incertezas geradas, tanto no âmbito pessoal e educacional.
