Resumo: Objective: to analyze the mortality profile from diarrhea and gastroenteritis of infectious and presumed origin in Brazilian regions from 2012 to 2020, as well as the health indicators that influence this issue. Methods: a descriptive and quantitative study on the morbidity and mortality profile of diarrhea and the sociodemographic profile of the Brazilian population from 2012 to 2020. Results: a trend towards a decrease in the number of cases was observed, with the Northeast and Midwest showing the greatest reductions, 34.6% and 22.3%, respectively; in relation to the mortality rate in the northeast, with 2.5 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, and the southeast with 2.45 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, these are the regions with the highest values; in addition, regarding the hospital profile, we obtained large reductions in the values transferred to the management of hospital procedures and hospitalizations, the largest being the reduction observed in the northeast, with 67.5%, but the other regions remained with decreases above 50%; to data on basic sanitation, especially in relation to the population without sewage collection, we have the northern region with 86.9% of the population without access, but showing a reduction of 4.29% compared to 2012. Conclusion: from the data, it was possible to establish a direct relationship between the population's social and demographic conditions and the disease's mortality profile, providing an enlightening view of the situation, with the aim of ensuring better management of the disease in the regions of Brazil.
