Long-term survival of anterior composite resin restorations: literature review

Resumo: | Introduction: Although there have been changes in the composition of composite resins aimed at reducing failures in restorations, there is currently a lack of consensus in the literature about its longevity and long-term survival of this material in anterior teeth. Objective: to investigate the clinical longevity of anterior composite resin restorations. Methodology: Following the PRISMA Statement Guidelines, an integrative peer review of the literature was carried out. The articles were indexed in the Pubmed database, based on the search with the descriptors “resin” and “clinical performance”. Results: 17 original articles were included in the study, predominantly in English. The most prevalent study design in the analyzed articles was the prospective one, totaling 80,470 restorations in this study. Conclusion: Direct composite resin restorations have a good longevity of up to 11 years, however, the technique is not immune to local fractures, therefore requiring care such as the use of protective plates and cementation of fiberglass posts. |

Objetivo: investigar la longevidad clínica de las restauraciones anteriores de resina compuesta. Metodología: Siguiendo las Directrices de la Declaración PRISMA, se llevó a cabo una revisión integradora de la literatura por pares. Los artículos fueron indexados en la base de datos Pubmed, a partir de la búsqueda con los descriptores “resin” y “clinical performance”. Resultados: se incluyeron en el estudio 17 artículos originales, predominantemente en inglés. El diseño de estudio más prevalente en los artículos analizados fue el prospectivo, totalizando 80.470 restauraciones en este estudio. Conclusión: Las restauraciones directas de resina compuesta tienen una buena longevidad de hasta 11 años, sin embargo, la técnica no es inmune a las fracturas locales, por lo que requiere cuidados como el uso de placas protectoras y cementación de postes de fibra de vidrio.Introdução: Embora sucedidas alterações na composição das resinas compostas visando a diminuição das falhas nas restaurações, existe atualmente, uma falta de consenso na literatura sobre sua longevidade e sobrevivência a longo prazo desse material em dentes anteriores. Objetivo: investigar a longevidade clínica de restaurações anteriores de resina composta. Metodologia: Seguindo as Diretrizes da Declaração PRISMA, realizou-se uma revisão integrativa de literatura por pares. Os artigos foram indexados na base de dados da Pubmed, a partir da busca com os descritores “resina” e “desempenho clínico”. Resultados: Incluiu-se no estudo 17 artigos originais, predominantemente no idioma inglês. O desenho de estudo mais prevalente nos artigos analisados foi o prospectivo e totalizaram-se nesse estudo 80470 restaurações.
