Impact of a systematic educational video for physical examination in the discent practice of physiotherapy in an Intensive Care Unit

Resumo: Introduction: Physiotherapy goes through moments of historical and curricular evolution that culminate today in the search for the best way to train professionals who are more general and close to the needs of society. However, the curricular changes that the profession goes through are not always able to supply what the student needs for a more complete training. Objective: To evaluate student practice before and after using an educational video about the physical therapy physical examination of the critical patient at the bedside. Methods: Single-arm clinical trail study with undergraduate students (n = 25) from the last year of Physiotherapy at a Public University in the State of Pará, from August to December 2018. The protocol consisted of the inclusion of a video educational in the students' routine and their evaluative complement through the Miniex instrument. Results: Average evaluation time of the pre and post-video phases of 9.2 ± 3.5 and 13.4 ± 1.9 (p < 0.0001). Improvement in the pre and post-video scores in the items of the Miniex (p < 0.0001); skill in physical examination 2.2 ± 1.2 and 7.4 ± 1.2, humanistic qualities/professionalism 2.0 ± 1.3 and 6.3 ± 2.4, clinical reasoning 2.3 ± 1.4 and 7.5 ± 1.3, guidance skills 2.6 ± 1.6 and 7.3 ± 1.4, organization/efficiency 2.0 ± 1.0 and 6.7 ± 2.1 and general clinical competence 2.4 ± 1.4 and 7.4 ± 1.3. Conclusion: The proposed educational video proved to be an efficient tool in the Physiotherapy student practice scenario.

Sin embargo, los cambios curriculares que atraviesa la profesión no siempre consiguen suplir lo que el alumno necesita para una formación más completa. Objetivo: Evaluar la práctica del estudiante antes y después mediante un video educativo sobre el examen físico de fisioterapia del paciente crítico a pie de cama. Métodos: Estudio de sendero clínico monobrazo con estudiantes de pregrado (n = 25) del último año de Fisioterapia en una Universidad Pública del Estado de Pará, de agosto a diciembre de 2018. El protocolo consistió en la inclusión de un video educativo en el la rutina de los estudiantes y su complemento evaluativo a través del instrumento Miniex. Resultados: Tiempo medio de evaluación de las fases pre y post video de 9,2 ± 3,5 y 13,4 ± 1,9 (p < 0,0001). Mejora en las puntuaciones pre y post video en los ítems del Miniex (p < 0,0001); habilidad en el examen físico 2.2 ± 1.2 y 7.4 ± 1.2, cualidades humanísticas/profesionalismo 2.0 ± 1.3 y 6.3 ± 2.4, razonamiento clínico 2.3 ± 1.4 y 7.5 ± 1.3, habilidades de orientación 2.6 ± 1.6 y 7.3 ± 1.4, organización/eficiencia 2.0 ± 1.0 y 6,7 ± 2,1 y competencia clínica general 2,4 ± 1,4 y 7,4 ± 1,3. Conclusión: El video educativo propuesto resultó ser una herramienta eficiente en el escenario de práctica del estudiante de Fisioterapia.Introdução: A Fisioterapia passa por momentos de evolução histórica e curricular que culminam até hoje na busca da melhor maneira de formar profissionais mais generalistas e próximos à necessidade da sociedade. No entanto, as mudanças curriculares pela qual a profissão passa nem sempre conseguem suprir o que o discente necessita para uma formação mais completa. Objetivo: Avaliar a prática discente antes e após a utilização de um vídeo educativo acerca do exame físico fisioterapêutico do paciente crítico no beira-leito. Métodos: Estudo do tipo single-arm clinical trail com discentes (n=25) de graduação do último ano de Fisioterapia de uma Universidade Pública no Estado do Pará, no período de agosto a dezembro de 2018. O protocolo consistiu na inclusão de um vídeo educativo na rotina dos discentes e o complemento avaliativo destes por meio do instrumento Miniex. Resultados: Tempo médio de avaliação das fases pré e pós-vídeo de 9.2 ± 3.5 e 13.4 ± 1.9 (p < 0,0001). Melhora nos escores pré e pós-vídeo nos itens do Miniex (p < 0,0001); habilidade no exame físico 2.2 ± 1.2 e 7.4 ± 1.2, qualidades humanísticas/profissionalismo 2.0 ± 1.3 e 6.3 ± 2.4, raciocínio clínico 2.3 ± 1.4 e 7.5 ± 1.3, habilidades de orientação 2.6 ± 1.6 e 7.3 ± 1.4, organização/eficiência 2.0 ± 1.0 e 6.7 ± 2.1 e competência clínica geral 2.4 ± 1.4 e 7.4 ± 1.3.
