Influence of age, nutritional status and dietary intake in maternal health

Objective: The study aimed to identify the influence of age, nutritional status and dietary intake on maternal health. Methodology: A cross-sectional and quantitative study was carried out. The sample consisted of 467 pregnant women from secondary data from a Basic Health Unit (UBS) and a High Risk Pregnancy Outpatient Clinic (AGAR). Age, pre-gestational nutritional status, weight gain during gestation and food consumption among pregnant women, as well as among the different age groups were compared: <19 years, between 20 and 34 and> 35. Results: AGAR women presented higher age, pre-gestational weight, BMI and weight gain and lower number of meals, energy consumption, lipids and proteins compared to pregnant women at the UBS. Conclusion: It was concluded that age above 35 years, nutritional status of overweight / obesity, excessive weight gain and insufficient dietary intake were related to pregnant women who presented high gestational risk.
