Antimicrobial agents in the disinfection of molds obtained in dental practice: a literature review

Resumo: Objective: To assess which disinfecting agent has the most appropriate characteristics, as well as the best disinfection method. Method: a descriptive and exploratory literature review was carried out, seeking the most relevant studies on the agents and methods of disinfecting molds obtained in dental practice, published between 2010 and 2020, in Portuguese and English. Results: According to the reviewed literature, it is important to note that professionals are already becoming increasingly aware of the risk of cross-contamination of materials in dental practice. Therefore, in the search for an ideal disinfectant method and solution, one must consider the interaction of microbicidal properties together with the effect on the molds and models obtained, as these will serve as the basis for the construction of the dental prosthesis. It is up to the dental professional to differentiate the specific characteristics of the disinfectant solution and the technique used, as well as the interaction of both, in order to obtain the desired result. Conclusion: Based on this literature review, it was possible to conclude that there is still no ideal disinfectant solution. The most used disinfection techniques are immersion, spraying and spraying, and all the techniques showed satisfactory results.

Método: Se realizó una revisión descriptiva y exploratoria de la literatura, buscando los estudios más relevantes sobre los agentes y métodos de desinfección de mohos obtenidos em la práctica dental, publicados entre 2010 y 2020, em portugués e inglés. Resultados: Según la literatura revisada, es importante tener em cuenta que los profesionales ya son cada vez más conscientes del riesgo de contaminación cruzada de materiales em la práctica dental. Por lo tanto, em la búsqueda de un método y solución desinfectante ideal, se debe considerar la interacción de las propiedades microbicidas junto com el efecto sobre los moldes y modelos obtenidos, ya que estos servirán de base para la construcción de la prótesis dental. Corresponde al profesional dental diferenciar las características específicas de la solución desinfectante y la técnica utilizada, así como la interacción de ambas, para obtener el resultado deseado. Conclusión: Con base en esta revisión de la literatura, fue posible concluir que todavía no existe una solución desinfectante ideal. Las técnicas de desinfección más utilizadas son la inmersión, la pulverización y la aspersión, y todas las técnicas mostraron resultados satisfactorios.Objetivo: Avaliar qual agente de desinfecção apresenta características mais adequadas, assim como o melhor método de desinfecção. Método: Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura descritiva e exploratória, buscando os estudos mais relevantes sobre os agentes e métodos de desinfecção de moldes obtidos na prática odontológica, publicados no período de 2010 à 2020, nos idiomas português e inglês. Resultados: De acordo com a literatura revisada, é importante notar que os profissionais já estão se conscientizando cada vez mais com relação ao risco de contaminação cruzada dos materiais na prática odontológica. Portanto, na busca de um método e solução desinfetante ideal, deve-se considerar a interação das propriedades microbicidas juntamente com o efeito sobre os moldes e modelos obtidos, já que esses servirão de base para a construção da prótese dental. Cabe ao profissional de odontologia diferenciar as características específicas da solução desinfetante e da técnica utilizada, bem como da interação de ambas, a fim de se obter o resultado almejado. Conclusão: Com base na presente revisão de literatura foi possível concluir, que ainda não há uma solução desinfetante ideal.
