Resumo: | Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM 2) develops when insulin secretion is inadequate to meet the growing needs that arise with insulin resistance. Objective: To highlight the importance of the pharmacist in monitoring the treatment of patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: This is a systematic review of online and printed databases, books, theses, dissertations and articles using descriptors combined or not: "Diabetes Mellitus type 2", "pharmaceutical consultation", "pharmaceutical treatment of type 2 DM", "pharmacotherapeutic monitoring" and "Diabetes Mellitus type 2", "pharma consulting", "pharmacological treatment of DM type 2”, “pharmacotherapeutic pharmacopoeia” performed in virtual libraries Medline, Lilacs, Pubmed, Scielo and BVS. Results: 32 articles were selected to compose the systematic review and bibliography used here. Appropriate treatment and management of chronic diseases (hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus type 2, dyslipidemia, etc.) in primary medical institutions has been identified as the main cause of the increase in medical expenses. In Brazil, according to recent data, it appears that the number of adults has increased rapidly, which in theory highlights that Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease with greater probability of occurring during the transition from poverty to abundance. Conclusions: Diabetes is expected to become one of the main diseases of adults in Brazil and to remain a public health problem in the world for a considerable period of time in the future. |
