Resumo: Objective: to describe a view of the nursing staff of a transitional hospital on the prevention and occurrence of falls in the elderly. Method: This is a qualitative, descriptive study carried out in a transitional hospital located in the city of Niterói - RJ, Brazil. Thirty-three nursing professionals participated in the study, of which there are seven nurses and twenty-six nursing technicians through semi-structured audio taped interviews that, after transcription, were submitted to Bardin's thematic analysis. Results: after analysis, three categories emerged: the experience of professionals with falls; the specific knowledge of professionals about falls and the performance of professionals after the falls incident. Conclusion: It was identified that the professionals know preventive measures for falls but expressed the need for educational actions on protocols and scales for assessing the risk of falls in the elderly.

Metodologia: estudio cualitativo, descriptivo, realizado en un hospital de transición ubicado en la ciudad de Niterói - RJ, Brasil. En el estudio participaron 33 profesionales de enfermería, siete enfermeros y veintiséis técnicos de enfermería, a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas grabadas en audio que, tras su transcripción, fueron sometidas al análisis temático de Bardin. Resultados: luego del análisis surgieron tres categorías: la experiencia de los profesionales con las caídas; el conocimiento específico de los profesionales sobre las caídas y la actuación de los profesionales tras la ocurrencia de caídas. Consideraciones finales: Se identificó que los profesionales conocen algunas medidas preventivas para las caídas, pero expresaron la necesidad de acciones educativas sobre protocolos y escalas para evaluar el riesgo de caídas en los ancianos.Objetivo: descrever a visão da equipe de enfermagem de um hospital de transição sobre a prevenção e ocorrência de quedas em idosos. Método: Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo do tipo descritivo realizado em um hospital de transição situado na cidade de Niterói - RJ, Brasil. Participaram do estudo 33 profissionais de enfermagem dos quais são sete enfermeiros e vinte e seis técnicos de enfermagem por meio de entrevista semiestruturada áudio gravadas que, após transcrição, foram submetidas à análise temática de Bardin. Resultados: após análise emergiram três categorias: a experiência dos profissionais com quedas; o conhecimento específico dos profissionais sobre quedas e a atuação dos profissionais após o incidente quedas.
