Resumo: The Characidae family and subfamily Stethaprioninae are a group of small fish. The species Poptella paraguayensis (Eingenmann, 1907) popularly known as "white skirt" is characterized by the presence of a longitudinal silver band just above the lateral line and a black stripe underneath. The reproduction was characterized P. paraguayensis, specifically aspects related to spawning flood pulse in system Bays Caiçara, Paraguay River, Pantanal. In total 1612 specimens were collected between the months of September 2005 to September 2007, called Cycle I (2005-2006) and Cycle II (2006-2007), both in Caiçara Lower Bay (BCI) as the Caiçara Superior Bay (BCS). For the collections of fish we used nylon net, trawl, cast nets and gill nets. The fish were fixed in 4% formalin for 72 hours and stored in 70% alcohol solution. Once gutted, the digestive tracts removed, identified and defined sex and reproductive stage. In total, 1612 specimens were sampled and the flood period is the period with the highest percentage of individuals in the stage of mature gonads for reproduction. Thus, it is noteworthy that P. paraguayensis is a base species of the food chain and widely exploited as bait among fishermen and this study demonstrates the hydrological periods in which the species reproduces.

La especie Poptella paraguayensis (Eingenmann, 1907) conocida popularmente como "falda blanca" se caracteriza por la presencia de una banda plateada longitudinal justo encima de la línea lateral y una lista negra subyacente. Se caracterizó la reproducción de P. paraguayensis, específicamente los aspectos de desove relacionados con el pulso de inundación en el sistema de Baías Caiçara, Río Paraguai, Pantanal Mato-grossense. En total, se recolectaron 1.612 ejemplares entre septiembre de 2005 y septiembre de 2007, denominados ciclo I (2005-2006) y ciclo II (2006-2007), tanto en Baía Caiçara Inferior (BCI) como en Baía Caiçara Superior (BCS). Para la recogida de peces se utilizaron mallas de nailon, redes de arrastre, redes y redes de enmalle. Los pescados se fijaron en formalina al 4% durante 72 horas y se conservaron en una solución de alcohol al 70%. Luego destripado, los tractos digestivos removidos, identificados y definidos el sexo y la etapa reproductiva.  Se recolectaron 1612 especímenes y el período de inundación es el período con mayor porcentaje de individuos en la etapa de gónadas maduras para la reproducción. Así, es de destacar que P. paraguayensis es una especie base de la cadena alimentaria y ampliamente explotada como cebo entre los pescadores y este estudio demuestra los períodos hidrológicos en los que se reproduce la especie.A família Characidae e subfamília Stethaprioninae constituem um grupo de peixes de pequeno porte. Foi caracterizada a reprodução de P. paraguayensis, especificamente os aspectos da desova relacionada ao pulso de inundação no sistema de Baías Caiçara, rio Paraguai, Pantanal Mato-grossense. Ao total foram coletados 1.612 espécimes entre os meses de setembro de 2005 a setembro de 2007, denominados ciclo I (2005-2006) e ciclo II (2006-2007), tanto na Baía Caiçara Inferior (BCI) como na Baía Caiçara Superior (BCS). Para as coletas de peixes utilizou-se tela de nylon, rede de arrasto, tarrafas e rede de emalhar. Os peixes foram fixados em formalina a 4% por 72 horas e conservados em solução de álcool 70%. Depois eviscerados, os tratos digestivos retirados, identificados e definidos o sexo e estádio reprodutivo. Foram coletados 1612 espécimes e o período de enchente é aquele com maior porcentagem de indivíduos em estágio de gônadas maduras para a reprodução.
