Resumo: The aim of this study is to understand the role of nurses in the early diagnosis of breast cancer, to describe the actions and strategies used for this purpose and to know their perceptions about their role in this situation in a Basic Health Unit in the Municipality of Juazeiro-BA. This is a qualitative research of descriptive characteristics, with all nurses in zone IV of the city of Juazeiro-BA. After data collection, the data were grouped and analyzed using the Bardin method. The results showed that the professionals present knowledge about breast cancer and its screening, however, still deficient and confusing. There is a need for public policies that prioritize the training of professionals so that it can reflect on the improvement of health indicators.

Se trata de una investigación cualitativa de característica descriptiva, con todos los enfermeros de la zona IV de la ciudad de Juazeiro-BA. Después de la recolección de los datos, los mismos fueron agrupados y analizados por medio de la técnica del método de Bardin. Los resultados encontrados mostraron que los profesionales presentan conocimiento sobre el cáncer de mama y su rastreo, sin embargo, todavía deficitarios y confusos. Hay necesidad de políticas públicas que prioricen la capacitación de los profesionales para que pueda reflejar en la mejora de los indicadores de salud.O objetivo deste estudo é compreender o papel do enfermeiro no diagnóstico precoce do câncer de mama, descrever as ações e estratégias utilizadas para tal objetivo e conhecer as suas percepções acerca do seu papel nesta situação em uma Unidade Básica de Saúde no Município de Juazeiro-BA. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa de característica descritiva, com todos os enfermeiros da zona IV da cidade de Juazeiro-BA. Após a coleta dos dados, os mesmos foram agrupados e analisados por meio da técnica do método de Bardin. Os resultados encontrados mostraram que os profissionais apresentam conhecimento acerca do câncer de mama e do seu rastreamento, contudo, ainda deficitários e confusos.
