Sociodemographic profile of the people living with elimination stoma in a Stomatherapy Service at a University Hospital in Southern Brazil

Resumo: To analyze the epidemiological profile of people with stomas treated at the Stomatherapy Service of a University Hospital in southern Brazil. Method: a quantitative, retrospective study of patients registered at the service since its creation 30 years ago. Data were collected in August and September 2022 from the registration forms of 150 patients treated in the sector. These were exported and organized into a table in Microsoft® Excel software and analyzed by the R Commander software program. Results: It was found that 51.3% (77) are men; As for age, 56.7% (85) are over 60 years old; 40% (60) have incomplete elementary education; 92.7% (139) of the stomas are of pathological etiology, with 36% (50) rectal cancer being the most prevalent. As for the type of ostomy, 68.7% (103) have a colostomy. As for race/ethnicity, 84% (126) declared themselves white. As for marital status, 44% (66) are married. As for the place of residence, 96.7% (145) live in the urban area. As for the time of permanence of the stoma, 61.3% (92) have temporary stomas; 53.3% (80) are linked to the Service between one and seven years. Conclusion: The identification of the profile of people assisted in the Stomatherapy Service makes it possible to organize the assistance, developing unique therapeutic plans in order to meet their individual needs.

Los datos fueron recolectados en agosto y septiembre de 2022 de las fichas de registro de 150 pacientes atendidos en el sector. Estos fueron exportados y organizados en una tabla en el software Microsoft® Excel y analizados por el programa de software R Commander. Resultados: Se encontró que el 51,3% (77) son hombres; En cuanto a la edad, el 56,7% (85) tiene más de 60 años; el 40% (60) tienen educación primaria incompleta; El 92,7% (139) de los estomas son de etiología patológica, siendo el 36% (50) el cáncer de recto el más prevalente. En cuanto al tipo de ostomía, el 68,7% (103) tienen colostomía. En cuanto a la raza/etnia, el 84% (126) se declararon blancos. En cuanto al estado civil, el 44% (66) son casados. En cuanto al lugar de residencia, el 96,7% (145) vive en la zona urbana. En cuanto al tiempo de permanencia del estoma, el 61,3% (92) tiene estomas temporales; El 53,3% (80) están vinculados al Servicio entre uno y siete años. Conclusión: La identificación del perfil de las personas atendidas en el Servicio de Estomaterapia posibilita organizar la asistencia, elaborando planes terapéuticos únicos para atender sus necesidades individuales.Analisar o perfil epidemiológico de pessoas estomizadas atendidas no Serviço de Estomaterapia de um Hospital   Universitário do sul do Brasil. Esses foram exportados e organizados em uma tabela no software Microsoft® Excel e analisados pelo programa de software R Commander. Resultados: Constatou-se que 51,3% (77) são homens; Quanto à idade 56,7% (85) tem mais de 60 anos; 40% (60) tem ensino fundamental incompleto; 92,7% (139) das estomias são de etiologia patológica, sendo a neoplasia de reto 36% (50) a mais prevalente. Quanto ao tipo de estomia 68,7% (103) possuem colostomia. Quanto à raça/etnia 84% (126) se auto declararam brancos. Quanto ao estado civil 44% (66) são casados. Quanto ao local de moradia 96,7 % (145) residem na área urbana. Quanto ao tempo de permanecia do estoma 61,3% (92) possuem estomas temporários; 53,3% (80) estão vinculados ao Serviço entre um e sete anos.
