Assessment of the perception of nursing students in relation to palliative care

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the perception of nursing students in relation to palliative care, as well as to identify the difficulties and insecurities related to patients undergoing palliative care. Methodology: This is prospective qualitative-quantitative research carried out in a private institution in southern Brazil. For data collection, a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured questionnaire were applied to a target population of 30 nursing students. Data production took place through a semi-structured interview from July to August 2022. Data were processed by the IRaMuTeQ software, and lexical analysis was performed. Results: It was observed that most participants are female and have an average age of 21 to 39 years, it was identified that most participants do not feel prepared to deal with palliative patients, they also mentioned insecurity and fear. Conclusion: With the present study it was possible to conclude that academics are not prepared to take care of palliative patients as well as to face the process of death and dying of the patient.

Metodología: Se trata de una investigación prospectiva cualitativa-cuantitativa realizada en una institución privada del sur de Brasil. Para la recolección de datos se aplicó un cuestionario sociodemográfico y un cuestionario semiestructurado a una población objetivo de 30 estudiantes de enfermería. La producción de datos se realizó a través de una entrevista semiestructurada de julio a agosto de 2022. Los datos fueron procesados por el software IRaMuTeQ y se realizó el análisis léxico. Resultados: Se observó que la mayoría de los participantes son del sexo femenino y tienen una edad promedio de 21 a 39 años, se identificó que la mayoría de los participantes no se sienten preparados para lidiar con pacientes paliativos, también mencionaron inseguridad y miedo. Conclusión: Con el presente estudio se pudo concluir que los académicos no están preparados para atender a los pacientes paliativos así como para enfrentar el proceso de muerte y agonía del paciente.Objetivo: Avaliar a percepção dos acadêmicos de enfermagem em relação aos cuidados paliativos, bem como identificar as dificuldades e as inseguranças relacionadas aos pacientes submetidos aos cuidados paliativos. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma pesquisa quali-quantitativo prospectivo, realizada em uma instituição privada do Sul do Brasil. Para a coleta de dados foram aplicados um questionário sociodemográfico e um questionário semi-estruturado, em uma população-alvo de 30 acadêmicos de enfermagem. A produção de dados ocorreu por meio de entrevista semiestruturada no período julho a agosto de 2022. Os dados foram processados pelo software IRaMuTeQ, e foi realizada a análise lexical. Resultados: Observou-se a maioria dos participantes são do sexo feminino e possuem média de idade de 21 a 39 anos, identificou-se que a maioria dos participantes não se sentem preparados para lidar com pacientes paliativos, referiram ainda, insegurança e medo.
