Resumo: The aim of this study is to carry out a bibliographical review addressing the main obstacles and challenges faced by the Dental Surgeon facing different age groups in dental care. The study is classified as a narrative literature review, with an exploratory character and a qualitative approach. Based on this permission, a search was carried out in the main world science and health databases, such as: Pubmed, Bireme, Scielo, Libary and Lilacs, applying as the main filter publications ranging from 2016 to 2021, written in Portuguese and English, thus enabling the realization of an updated approach on the proposed theme. The selection complied with the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the articles presented, so after reading the title, abstract, and full content of each of the studies, 27 articles were selected, used as a theoretical basis for this review. It is concluded that the general role of the Dentist-Surgeon (CD) is a challenge, considering that the multidisciplinary care requires a mastery of the professional CD about different specialties and also the age groups, considering that the chronological age of a patient can directly influence the method used to perform the dental care.

El estudio se clasifica como una revisión de literatura narrativa, con carácter exploratorio y enfoque cualitativo. Con base en este permiso, se realizó una búsqueda en las principales bases de datos mundiales de ciencia y salud, tales como: Pubmed, Bireme, Scielo, Libary y Lilacs, aplicándose como filtro principal las publicaciones que van del 2016 al 2021, escritas en portugués e inglés, permitiendo así la realización de un enfoque actualizado sobre el tema propuesto. La selección cumplió con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión de los artículos presentados, por lo que luego de la lectura del título, resumen y contenido completo de cada uno de los estudios, se seleccionaron 27 artículos, utilizados como base teórica para esta revisión. Se concluye que el rol general del Odontólogo-Cirujano (CD) es un desafío, considerando que la atención multidisciplinar requiere un dominio del CD profesional sobre las diferentes especialidades y también los grupos etarios, considerando que la edad cronológica de un paciente puede directamente influir en el método utilizado para realizar el cuidado dental.O objetivo do presente estudo trata-se da realização de uma revisão bibliográfica abordando os principais obstáculos e desafios enfrentados pelo Cirurgião Dentista frente ao atendimento odontológico diferentes faixas etárias. O estudo classifica-se como uma revisão narrativa de literatura, de caráter exploratório e abordagem qualitativa. Partindo desta permissa foi realizada uma busca nas principais bases de dados mundiais de ciências e saúde, como: Pubmed, Bireme, Scielo, Libary e Lilacs, aplicando como filtro principal publicações que variem entre 2016 a 2021, redigidos em português e inglês, possibilitando assim a realização de uma abordagem atualizada acerca do tema proposto. A seleção dos respeitou os critérios de inclusão e exclusão de artigos apresentados, assim após a leitura do título, do resumo, e do conteúdo integral de cada um dos estudos, foram selecionados 27 artigos, utilizados como embasamento teórico da presente revisão.
