Epidemiological analysis of violence against the elderly in a city in the State of Paraná

Objectives: Thus, the present study aims to analyze the epidemiological profile of violence against the elderly in the city of Maringá-PR between 2018 and 2020. Method: This is a retrospective, cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive study carried out in the epidemiological surveillance of the Health Department of the municipality of Maringá. Results: A total of 228 files were analyzed; 57.9% (132) were female, 78.1% (178) were white, and 80.7% (184) had less than 9 years of schooling. Regarding the aggressor, 48.2% (110) were male, mostly sons 27.2% (62). There was a predominance of physical violence 37.7% (86) of the notification followed by self-inflicted violence 28.1% (64). Bottom line: It was observed the predominance of violence in white elderly, with a high tendency to female population, with low education and without partner. Referring to the types of violence, it was evidenced the need for new studies focused on the theme of violence against self-inflicted elderly and suicide attempt.
