Barbadense cotton cultivation (Gossypium barbadense L.), Pima variety of extra-long fiber, for the Brazilian semiarid

Resumo: | This work aimed to present the productive and technological results of extra-long fiber produced by producers in Peru, aiming to encourage and expand its cultivation in the Brazilian semiarid region. As it is a proposal for employment and income for the Northeast region, Embrapa Algodão identified important technological processes related to the production system that enhance the yield and improve the quality of cotton Gossypium barbadense breed, whose fiber between 36-38 mm in length can reach a high market price. The American variety Pima-70 would be the most suitable for the Brazilian semiarid region due to its tolerance to warm regions. Based on the results obtained for the cultivar Pima in Peru in rainfed and complementary irrigation conditions, their respective yields ranged from 3,220 to 3,680 Kg/ha (organic production system) and 4,500 Kg/ha (conventional production system with irrigation by flooding), combined with adequate soil preparation and efficient cultural management. |

Por tratarse de una propuesta de empleo y renta para la región Nordeste, Embrapa Algodão identificó importantes procesos tecnológicos relacionados con el sistema de producción que mejoran el rendimiento y la calidad del algodón Gossypium barbadense, cuya fibra entre 36-38 mm de longitud puede alcanzar una alto precio de mercado. La variedad americana Pima-70 sería la más adecuada para la región semiárida brasileña debido a su tolerancia a las regiones cálidas. Con base en los resultados obtenidos para el cultivar Pima en Perú en condiciones de secano y riego suplementario, sus rendimientos respectivos oscilaron entre 3220 y 3680 Kg/ha (sistema de producción orgánico) y 4500 Kg/ha (sistema de producción convencional con riego por inundación), combinados con una preparación adecuada del suelo y un manejo cultural eficiente.Este trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar os resultados produtivos e tecnológicos de fibra extralonga produzidos pelos produtores do Peru, visando incentivar e expandir o seu cultivo no Semiárido brasileiro. Por ser uma proposta de emprego e renda para a região do Nordeste, a Embrapa Algodão identificou importantes processos tecnológicos referentes ao sistema de produção que potencializam o rendimento e melhoram a qualidade do algodão Gossypium barbadense, cuja fibra entre 36-38 mm de comprimento consegue alcançar um elevado preço de mercado. A variedade americana Pima-70 seria a mais indicada para o semiárido brasileiro por sua tolerância as regiões quentes.
