Adolescence is a phase of rapid growth and physical, social and psychological transformations through which the individual passes from childhood to adulthood. At this stage, adolescents may exhibit behaviors that negatively impact their general and oral health, such as inadequate diet, sedentary lifestyle, use of alcohol and drugs, among others. A major challenge for primary health care crew is the adherence to treatment. It is known also that family can influence in a significant way the adolescent habits and behavior. Thus, the purpose of this study is to understand the process of adolescents' adherence to dental care in primary care, from the perspective of their families, with its implications for oral health. This is a qualitative study based on Martin Heidegger's Phenomenology. The authors identified with the research factors that make it difficult to access dental services, and factors related to the arrival of adolescence that influence dental adherence and the maintenance in the treatment.
