Production of activated carbon using Castanheira-do-Brasil (Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl.) waste as a solution for water treatment

Resumo: | The use of activated carbon is evidenced by the increasing scope of carbon-based utilities in various industrial applications, including pharmaceutical antidotes, wastewater remediation, aquaculture, and toxin removal. Activated carbon produced from biomass residues by various processing methods and conditions is emerging as a promising adsorbent for ecosystem remediation, due to the extensive discharge of pollutants. The objective of the present research was to develop, from laboratory tests, the production of activated carbon using Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl. Lecythidaceae) residues related to a drinking water treatment solution. The results of the tests indicated that the chestnut urchin residue has more advantage in burning and charcoal production compared to the nut shell residue, where it was possible to verify in the nut shell sample high rates of mass loss (20.92%) related to water absorption, which is not good for the production of any type of charcoal, in relation to the chestnut urchin sample, the mass loss rate was 5.21% related to water absorption, much lower than in the chestnut shell , which makes it visible in the production of coal and for consumption in any other branch. |

El carbón activado producido a partir de residuos de biomasa mediante varios métodos y condiciones de procesamiento está emergiendo como un adsorbente prometedor para la remediación de ecosistemas, debido a la extensa descarga de contaminantes. El objetivo de la presente investigación fue desarrollar, a partir de pruebas de laboratorio, la producción de carbón activado a partir de residuos de castaña (Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl. Lecythidaceae) relacionados con una solución de tratamiento de agua potable. Los resultados de las pruebas indicaron que el residuo de erizo de castaña tiene más ventaja en la quema y producción de carbón en comparación con el residuo de cáscara de nuez, donde fue posible verificar en la muestra de cáscara de nuez altas tasas de pérdida de masa (20,92%) relacionadas con la absorción de agua. , que no es bueno para la producción de ningún tipo de carbón vegetal, en relación a la muestra de erizo de castaño, la tasa de pérdida de masa fue del 5,21% relacionada con la absorción de agua, muy inferior a la de la cáscara de castaño, lo que lo hace visible en la producción de carbón y para consumo en cualquier otro ramo.O uso de carvão ativado é evidenciado pelo aumento do escopo de utilidades baseadas em carbono em várias aplicações industriais, incluindo antídotos farmacêuticos, remediação de águas residuais, aquicultura e remoção de toxinas. O carvão ativado produzido a partir de resíduos de biomassa por vários métodos e condições de processamento está surgindo como um adsorvente promissor para remediação do ecossistema, devido à extensa descarga de poluentes. O objetivo da presente pesquisa foi desenvolver a partir de testes laboratoriais a produção do carvão ativado através de resíduos da castanheira-do-brasil (Bertholletia excelsa Bonpl. Lecythidaceae) relacionados a solução de tratamento de águas potável.
