First record of Coccus hesperidum L. (Hemiptera: Coccidae) on Mucuna bennettii F. Muell (Fabaceae)

Resumo: The scarlet jade vines (Mucuna bennettii F. Muell, Fabaceae) is an exotic plant easily found in Federal District, Brazil, used as ornamentation in the region. This work aims to report the occurrence of the scale insect Coccus hesperidum L. (Hemiptera: Coccidae) on M. bennettii. Samples were collected from two scarlet jade vines located in Federal District and sent for identification. Infestations of this coccid were observed on leaves, stems, and trunks. Based on this report, the hots list of this polyphagous and cosmopolitan insect is expanded. In addition, C. hesperidum is reported the first time in Federal District, Brazil.

Se recolectaron muestras de cochinilla de dos plantas de jade rojo ubicadas en el Distrito Federal, Brasil y se enviaron para su identificación. Se observaron infestaciones de este coccid en hojas, tallos y troncos. A partir de este relato, se amplía la lista de hospedadores de este insecto polífago y cosmopolita. Además, la ocurrencia de C. hesperidum se registra por primera vez en el Distrito Federal, Brasil.A jade-vermelha (Mucuna bennettii F. Muell, Fabaceae) é uma trepadeira exótica facilmente encontrada em vários pontos do Distrito Federal, usada como forma de ornamentação de quadras e parques na região. Esse trabalho tem como objetivo relatar pela primeira vez a ocorrência da cochonilha Coccus hesperidum L. (Hemiptera: Coccidae) em M. bennettii. Amostras de cochonilhas foram coletadas de duas plantas de jade-vermelha situadas no Distrito Federal, Brasil e enviadas para identificação. Infestações desse coccídeo foram observadas nas folhas, hastes e troncos. A partir desse relato, a lista de hospedeiras desse inseto polífago e cosmopolita é ampliada.
