Resumo: Describe the effectiveness of chemotherapy in palliative care in cancer patients. This is an integrative review study started in April 2020, using Google Scholar, Medline, Scielo and PubMed as database. The PICO strategy was used to construct the research topics. According to this search method, 255 articles were reached, and the definition by determining the exclusion criteria was selected 27 original articles used in this review. The selected articles were analyzed and organized into four thematic categories, namely: Palliative Care in Oncology Patient, Palliative Chemotherapy in Solid Tumors, Palliative Chemotherapy versus Quality of Life and Skills and Nursing Care in Palliative Chemotherapy. An acceptance of palliative chemotherapy is noted. in some cases and in others more risks than benefits are identified, making the choice of this treatment improper. The choice of treatment must be made following individualized assessments carried out by the responsible team aiming at the best quality and life expectancy of each patient.

Este es un estudio de revisión integradora que comenzó en abril de 2020, utilizando Google Scholar, Medline, Scielo y PubMed como base de datos. Se utilizó la estrategia PICO para construir los temas de investigación. De acuerdo con este método de búsqueda, se llegó a 255 artículos, y la definición por determinación de los criterios de exclusión se seleccionaron 27 artículos originales utilizados en esta revisión. Los artículos seleccionados fueron analizados y organizados en cuatro categorías temáticas, a saber: Cuidados Paliativos en Paciente Oncológico, Quimioterapia Paliativa en Tumores Sólidos, Quimioterapia Paliativa versus Calidad de Vida y Habilidades y Cuidados de Enfermería en Quimioterapia Paliativa. Se destaca la aceptación de la quimioterapia paliativa. en unos casos y en otros se identifican más riesgos que beneficios, haciendo inadecuada la elección de este tratamiento. La elección del tratamiento debe realizarse siguiendo evaluaciones individualizadas realizadas por el equipo responsable con el objetivo de lograr la mejor calidad y esperanza de vida de cada paciente.Descrever a eficácia da quimioterapia nos cuidados paliativos em pacientes oncológicos. Trata-se de um estudo de revisão integrativa iniciado em abril de 2020, que utilizou como base de dados o Google Acadêmico, Medline, Scielo e PubMed. A estratégia PICO foi utilizada para a construção dos temas de pesquisa. De acordo com este método de busca, chegou-se a 255 artigos, e a definição por determinação dos critérios de exclusão foram selecionados 27 artigos originais utilizados nessa revisão. Os artigos selecionados foram analisados e organizados em quatro categorias temáticas, sendo: Cuidados Paliativos no Paciente Oncológico, Quimioterapia Paliativa em Tumores Sólidos, Quimioterapia Paliativa versus Qualidade de Vida e Competências e Cuidados da Enfermagem na Quimioterapia Paliativa. Verifica-se uma aceitação da quimioterapia paliativa em alguns casos e, em outros se identificam mais riscos do que benefícios, tornando imprópria a escolha desse tratamento.
