Resumo: This work aimed to spatialize the flood spot and the impacts resulting from a possible rupture of the Pontal dam in the municipality of Itabira/MG. The data used were provided by the Municipal Civil Defense of the Municipal Department of Environment of the municipality. The methodology consisted of making maps with the spatialization of the floodplain and land use and occupation, using ArcGIS 10.3 software. In the event of the dam rupture, the main water body of the municipality, the Peixe River, which is downstream of the Pontal dam, in addition to its tributaries, would be affected. Consequently, there would be an impact on water quality, such as increased turbidity, reduced OD, and increased concentration of heavy metals and other elements present in mining tailings. There would also be impacts on the urban area, such as the destruction of homes, vegetation and fauna, in addition to the loss of human lives, if there is not rapid evacuation. The length of the stain is approximately 9.80 km in Itabira, but it exceeds the limits of the municipality. It is concluded that in the face of a possible rupture of the dam, the environmental damage downstream of the dam would be great, both for the municipality of Itabira, as well as for the other municipalities that could be affected, with the change in water quality, the devastation of vegetation and urban construction, in addition to the various forms of life present in the area.

Los datos utilizados fueron proporcionados por la Defensa Civil Municipal del Departamento Municipal de Medio Ambiente del municipio. La metodología consistió en la elaboración de mapas con la espacialización de la llanura de inundación y el uso y ocupación de la tierra, utilizando el software ArcGIS 10.3. En caso de que se rompiera la presa, se vería afectada la principal masa de agua del municipio, el río Peixe, que se encuentra aguas abajo de la presa del Pontal, además de sus afluentes. En consecuencia, habría un impacto en la calidad del agua, como el aumento de la turbiedad, la reducción de la densidad óptica y el aumento de la concentración de metales pesados y otros elementos presentes en los residuos mineros. Si no se produce una evacuación rápida, también se producirían impactos en la zona urbana, como la destrucción de viviendas, vegetación y fauna, además de la pérdida de vidas humanas. La longitud de la mancha es de aproximadamente 9,80 km en Itabira, pero excede los límites del municipio. Se concluye que ante una posible ruptura de la presa, el daño ambiental aguas abajo de la misma sería grande, tanto para el municipio de Itabira, como para los demás municipios que podrían verse afectados, con el cambio de la calidad del agua, la devastación de la vegetación y la construcción urbana, además de las diversas formas de vida presentes en la zona.Este trabalho teve como objetivo espacializar a mancha de inundação e os impactos decorrentes de um possível rompimento da barragem do Pontal no município de Itabira/MG. Os dados utilizados foram fornecidos pela Defesa Civil Municipal da Secretaria Municipal de Meio Ambiente do município. A metodologia consistiu na confecção de mapas com a espacialização da mancha de inundação e uso e ocupação do solo, por meio do software ArcGIS 10.3. Em caso de rompimento da barragem, o principal corpo hídrico do município o rio do Peixe, que está a jusante da barragem do Pontal, além de seus afluentes, seriam atingidos. Consequentemente, haveria um impacto na qualidade da água, como o aumento da turbidez, redução do OD, além do aumento da concentração de metais pesados e outros elementos presentes no rejeito da mineração. Haveria impactos também na área urbana, como a destruição de residências, da vegetação e da fauna, além da perda de vidas humanas, caso não haja a rápida evacuação. A extensão da mancha é de aproximadamente 9,80 km em Itabira, porém ela ultrapassa os limites do município.
